Untapped Community Awards bestowed upon 27 New Mexico breweries

They went out and did that ranking thing, because sure, why not?

Whatever you think of Untappd, and for us it’s mainly a way to keep track of the beers we’ve consumed, it remains the primary app for craft brewery enthusiasts around the country.

In that spirit of around the country, Untappd went and made the Community Awards, where it uses those ratings bestowed upon the beers to pick gold, silver, and bronze winners in multiple beer styles, divided by the states in which those breweries reside.

For New Mexico, 27 breweries (well, 26 and one cidery) picked up one of these awards across 32 style categories. We are not sure how the categories appear, but we assume there has to be a certain amount of check-ins/ratings for beers those styles for a category to end up with a top three in a state. Just in dark beers alone, New Mexico did not muster enough to make things like Porter, Oatmeal Stout, or Imperial Stout worthy of these rankings. (We’re not mad about this, not at all; now please excuse us while we crank the metals up to 11.)

So, yeah, this is far from perfect. It’s basically crowd-sourced awards, so in some of the categories below, you might be left beating your heads against the bar top. Just, uh, don’t hurt yourselves. We only went through and compiled this because it’s a slow week for news and what the heck, it’s a talker and a sort of dumb fun to discuss this before we roll into the much-needed weekend. Read on, leave your thoughts in the comments, and remember, beer is subjective.

That adds up to 96 winners across 32 categories. To save you the trouble of doing the awards-by-brewery math, La Cumbre won the most awards with 13 (six gold, five silver, two bronze), followed by Bosque with 12 (three gold, three silver, six bronze) and Ex Novo also with 12 (four gold, four silver, four bronze).

So again, debate amongst yourselves, debate in the comments, or you can read this and maybe find a beer or two that you need to go try for the first time (or first in a while).

Until the next time someone decides to make a random awards listicle, we’ll just keep sitting around, wishing everyone would just drink more stouts and relax a little.
