The good folks at Tractor Brewing’s Taproom in Nob Hill are gathering signatures from beer lovers to take to a zoning meeting next Tuesday as the first step in the process of setting themselves free from government shackles.
As reported Wednesday, Tractor ran afoul of an old ordinance for the Nob Hill district that prevents the sale of packaged liquor. Under the ordinance, growlers count as packaged, cutting Tractor off from a major source of revenue. Since opening the Taproom in July, Tractor has expanded from five to 12 full-time employees, a resounding success in a moribund economy. Luckily the Taproom was told to only cease and desist in growler sales; there was no fine, a Tractor employee said.
To help, all beer lovers should stop by Tractor to enjoy a pint and add their signatures to the petition. It is a rather simple way to help a local brewery, not to mention it comes with the perk of enjoying a good pint. Try the new Barnstorm Ale, or grab an old favorite like the Double Plow Oatmeal Stout.
The NMDSBC will stay on this story until we, too, can again fill our growlers at Tractor.
