This is E-Rock, back to bring you the news on what’s new in Albuquerque-area craft breweries. As you may have already known and/or forgot, Father’s Day is on Sunday. So what do you get for the dad who has everything? Beer of course! Heck, get him beer even if he doesn’t have everything. Lucky for you, local breweries are here to help. Turtle Mountain has a Father’s Day sirloin special, Il Vicino is playing host to the 1st Annual Canteen Beer Fest on Saturday, and La Cumbre has the GABF-award winning BEER on tap. And if that isn’t enough, there are now 11 (soon to be 13!) breweries in the metro area with tap rooms bringing you and your father great beer. To help you out, here is all the news that is fit to blog for the week of June 11.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number (all are area code 505, for out-of-state readers) and hours of operation. Under “Beers” are the new or seasonal beers on tap for this week. And for those breweries that play host to musicians, I made sure to list who’s on the week’s set list.
ABQ Brew Pub — 884-1116
(Mon–Thurs 11 a.m.–midnight, Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–2 a.m., Sunday 10 a.m.–midnight)
Beers: Scottish Ale. ABQ Brew Pub is out of Ben Miller’s Dark Belgian Strong, but the Scottish Ale is still on tap
Back Alley Tap Room — phone number N/A
(Hours N/A, presumably same as NY Pizza Dept.)
Beers: Cherry Wheat, “The Streets” Saison, Goathead Pale Ale. “The Streets” Saison is a sweet Belgian style beer with a touch of hops, and Goathead Pale Ale is a great clean ale with a bite of hops.
Bad Ass Brewery — 918-2337
(Mon–Thurs 4 p.m.–10:30 p.m., Fri–Sat 3 p.m.–midnight, Sun noon–8 p.m.)
Beers: Triple Chocolate Stout, Eager Oatmeal Stout, Zombie IPA. Not only is B.A.B.’s signature Zombie IPA back on tap, but B.A.B. also has multiple stouts. For those who haven’t been to B.A.B., they offer a tasting platter of six beers on tap. The B.A.B. staff members often mix their beers to come up with some great concoctions that are also available on their sample platter.
News: B.A.B is hosting an open mic on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Broken Bottle Brewery — 890-8777
(Mon–Fri 4 p.m.–midnight, Sat noon–midnight, Sun noon–10 p.m.)
Beers: Nacho Brau, Fat Willy’s Smoke Stout. Nacho Brau is made with blue corn and has been on tap since Friday.
News: Broken Bottle’s new happy hour, featuring one-dollar-off pints from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Chama River Brewing Company — 342-1800
(Sun–Thurs 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–midnight)
Beers: Vanilla Cream Ale, Bock to the Future, Bonus Czech, Hopslap. Chama River has a whole host of new summer beers that the Crew is itching to try. Stop by by, grab a pint, and let us know what you think.
Il Vicino Brewing Canteen — 881-2737
(Sun–Thurs noon–10 p.m., Fri–Sat noon–midnight)
Beers: Simcoe IPA, Chrystal IPA, Hefeweizen, Peach Wheat, Belgian Strong, Rye PA, Exodus IPA. It’s IPA season, and IV has taken different hops used for their Wet Mountain IPA and made batches IPAs with just the Simcoe and Chrystal hops. Those with discriminating palates can try Simcoe, Chrystal, Centennial, and Wet Mountain back to back at the Canteen Beer Fest to see how different hops effect the taste of IPAs.
News: Chocolate Brown is on tap for Cask Wednesday. Il Vicino still has some tickets left for their beer festival June 16. Il Vicino has been stockpiling kegs of all of their creations for the past few years and will unleash about 37 different styles of beer in the upcoming festival. The festival will be from noon to 8 p.m. and includes bands, vendors, and food carts. Due to capacity limitations, only about 650 tickets will be sold, so be sure to get yours as soon as possible.
Music: Tues — Zoltan Duo 6-9 p.m., Sat — Keith Sanchez & the Moon Thieves 12-3pm, Reviva 3-6 p.m., Blue Hornets 6-8pm, Sun — Keith Sanchez (songwriter) 3-6 p.m.
La Cumbre Brewing — 872-0225
(Open every day at noon)
Beers: BEER (classic American pilsner), Pale 32 (low gravity ale), Miles from Cologne (Kolsch). BEER is back on tap this week. Pilsner has become a bad word in craft beer circles thanks to decades of watered-down domestics, but BEER is just the cure for any beer snob who might doubt the power of a good pilsner. Plus, you get to go to a bar and say, “I’ll have a BEER, please.” Just like in the movies!
Music: Weds — The Tumbleweeds 6-9 p.m., Sat — 3 String Bale 7-10 p.m.
Marble Brewery — 243-2739
(Mon–Sat 1 p.m.–midnight, Sun 1 p.m.–10:30 p.m.)
Beers: Oaked Double IPA, Fantine Sour. The Fantine Sour is almost out. If you hurry, you just might catch it before it is gone. While you are at Marble also check out the Oaked DIPA. Oaked beers tend to mellow out the bite of the hops.
Music: Weds — Joel Fadness 5-7 p.m., Grace Askew and David Coen 7-10 p.m., Thurs — Zoltan Orkestar 8-11 p.m., Fri — Roustabout Circus Collective 8-11:30 p.m., Sat — Jir Project 8-11 p.m.
Nexus Brewery — 242-4100
(Mon–Thurs 2 p.m.–10 p.m., Fri–Sun 11 a.m.–midnight)
Beers: Imperial Cream Ale, Beam Me Up Scottish, Zaragoza. The long awaited Imperial Cream Ale should be on tap by this weekend. Nexus has a knack for making powerful, yet smooth beers
Tractor Brewing Company — 433-5654 (Nob Hill Tap Room)
(The tap room opens most days around 3 p.m. and stays open as late as 2 a.m.; it opens earlier on weekends)
Beers: Belgian Saisson, Belgian White, Apple Cider. For those who find Belgian beers to be a little too sweet, the Belgian Saisson may be the beer for you. The Saisson is tasty, refreshing, and not overpowering. It makes for a great summer beer.
Turtle Mountain Brewing Company — 994-9497
(Kitchen hours: Mon–Thurs 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–8:30 p.m.)
Beers: Oatmeal IPA, Maximus (Imperial IPA) on cask, PNB Brown, Mister Hoover’s Steam, 70/70. I don’t know what an Oatmeal IPA is, but the name alone sounds quite intriguing.
News: Turtle Mountain is offering Father’s Day Special on Sunday. The special include a pint, an 8-oz. sirloin, corn on the cob, and other sides for about $17.

(Editor’s note: The two new breweries that E-Rock referred to in his intro are Boar’s Nest, which served up some tasty pints at Blues & Brews, and Bosque Brewing Co., which will open on San Mateo just north of Alameda. Both breweries hope to be open this summer. — Stoutmeister)
