This is E-Rock, here to bring you up to speed on what’s going on in the exciting world of Burque-area breweries. It turns out that many breweries are either brewing new beers or waiting for taps to open up to serve beers that are ready for the tap. In the tap rooms, there’s not a lot that I haven’t already written about, but there are still a lot of great beers on tap that may still be new to you. Nexus brought back their award-winning Imperial Cream Ale, Bad Ass Brewery reintroduced their C-Squared Kolsch, La Cumbre still has BEER on tap, and Il Vicino has one keg of their Black IPA that survived their first annual Canteen Beer Fest. In addition, Broken Bottle is introducing a slew special events this week and Turtle Mountain and its sister restaurant, The Smoke House, are trading menu items for a limited time. To help catch up on the beers you may have missed, here is all the news that is fit to blog for the week of June 18.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number (all are area code 505, for out-of-state readers) and hours of operation. Under “Beers” are the new or seasonal beers on tap for this week. And for those breweries that play host to musicians, I made sure to list who’s on the week’s set list.
ABQ Brew Pub — 884-1116
(Mon–Thurs 11 a.m.–midnight, Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–2 a.m., Sunday 10 a.m.–midnight)
Beers: Scottish Ale. ABQ Brew Pub is out of Ben Miller’s Dark Belgian Strong, but the Scottish Ale is still on tap
Back Alley Draft House — phone number N/A
(Hours 5 p.m.-11 p.m. daily)
Beers: Cherry Wheat, “The Streets” Saison, Goathead Pale Ale. “The Streets” Saison is a sweet Belgian style beer with a touch of hops, and Stoutmeister sayd the Goathead Pale Ale has a “nice bite with a smooth finish.”
Bad Ass Brewery — 918-2337
(Mon–Thurs 4 p.m.–10:30 p.m., Fri–Sat 3 p.m.–midnight, Sun noon–8 p.m.)
Beers: Alter Melons, Big Blue, Utter Insanity, Amber Ale, C-Squared, Matt’s Smoked Ale, Hefe Rojo, Eat Your Oatmeal, Triple Chocolate Stout, Bitter Black. C-Squared (Kolsch) and Bitter Black have returned. Asked the B.A.B. waitstaff for the best beer mixtures on tap.
News: Zombie IPA is out but is sure to rise again.
Broken Bottle Brewery — 890-8777
(Mon–Fri 4 p.m.–midnight, Sat noon–midnight, Sun noon–10 p.m.)
Beers: Nacho Brau, Fat Willy’s Smoke Stout. Nacho Brau is made with blue corn.
News: In addition to their happy hour (one-dollar-off pints from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday), Broken Bottle is now featuring live music Tuesday night, Geeks Who Drink Wednesday night, and “I’ll Drink to That,” a collectin of poetry, music, and more this coming Sunday afternoon.
Music: Tues — Spankey Lee 7-9 p.m., Sun — Leah Black, Avidiva, and Darbstar 4 p.m.
Chama River Brewing Company — 342-1800
(Sun–Thurs 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–midnight)
Beers: Vanilla Cream Ale, Bock to the Future, Bonus Czech, Hopslap. Bonus Czech is a great pilsner.
Il Vicino Brewing Canteen — 881-2737
(Sun–Thurs noon–10 p.m., Fri–Sat noon–midnight)
Beers: Stout, Brown, Black IPA. Their is only one keg of the Black IPA left. Catch it before it is gone.
News: Chocolate Brown is on tap for Cask Wednesday.
Music: Tues — Matt Jones (Songwriter) 6-9 p.m., Sun — JP Harris and the Tough Choices 3-6 p.m.
La Cumbre Brewing — 872-0225
(Open every day at noon)
Beers: BEER (classic American pilsner), Pale 32 (low gravity ale), Miles from Cologne (Kolsch). BEER is back on tap this week. Pilsner has become a bad word in craft beer circles thanks to decades of watered-down domestics, but BEER is just the cure for any beer snob who might doubt the power of a good pilsner. Plus, you get to go to a bar and say, “I’ll have a BEER, please.” Just like in the movies! (E-Rock, Franz Solo and I got to try both BEER and Miles from Cologne last Friday night. They were both excellent summer beers, light but not too light with a good body, a little bite at the start and a crisp, clean finish. — Stoutmeister)
Music: Weds — Eric From Philly 6-9 p.m., Sat — Odd Dog 7-10 p.m.
Marble Brewery — 243-2739
(Mon–Sat 1 p.m.–midnight, Sun 1 p.m.–10:30 p.m.)
Beers: Oaked Double IPA. The Santine Sour is out, but Marble still has the Oaked DIPA.
Music: Weds — Kimo 5-7 p.m., Elan 8-9 p.m., Thurs — Gregg Daigle Band 8-11 p.m., Fri — Reviva 8-11 p.m., Sat — Squash Blossom Boys 8-11 p.m.
Nexus Brewery — 242-4100
(Mon–Thurs 2 p.m.–10 p.m., Fri–Sun 11 a.m.–midnight)
Beers: Imperial Cream Ale, Beam Me Up Scottish, Zaragoza. The long awaited Imperial Cream Ale is now on tap! Nexus has a knack for making powerful, yet smooth beers and this one is no different. Stoutmeister had a sample, it’s about 9.5% so he had to be careful, and reports that it is “another sweet, delicious dessert-style offering that you could indulge in for a very long time.”
Tractor Brewing Company — 433-5654 (Nob Hill Tap Room)
(The tap room opens most days around 3 p.m. and stays open as late as 2 a.m.; it opens earlier on weekends)
Beers: Belgian Saisson, Belgian White, Apple Cider. For those who find Belgian beers to be a little too sweet, the Belgian Saisson may be the beer for you. The Saisson is tasty, refreshing, and not overpowering. It makes for a great summer beer.
Turtle Mountain Brewing Company — 994-9497
(Kitchen hours: Mon–Thurs 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–8:30 p.m.)
Beers: Oatmeal IPA, Maximus (Imperial IPA) on cask, PNB Brown, Mister Hoover’s Steam, 70/70. I don’t know what an Oatmeal IPA is, but the name alone sounds quite intriguing.
News: Arsenal Porter is out.
