Cheers to you, Mountain West Brew Fest! See you in 2016!

The Mountain West Brew Fest returns, though it has some competition this year.

Sometimes life can leave you with tough choices. This weekend features not one, but two beer festivals. The good news is they are both two-day-long festivals, so you can visit one Saturday and the other Sunday. In the case of the Mountain West Brew Fest in Bernalillo, the lineups will not change from day to day. The New Mexico True Fest, on the other hand, will have different brewery lineups on each day.

So, how to choose? Well, we tried to help by getting you the beer lineups, but less than half the attending breweries responded. Let us just lay out the details about the differences, then you can decide. (What beer lineups we received are listed below.)

Mountain West Brew Fest

When: Saturday and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. Where: Loretto Park, Bernalillo. How to get there: Parking is limited, so please consider taking the Rail Runner. Shuttles will transport people from the Bernalillo/550 station to the event. How much: $20 general admission, $40 VIP, cash only.

There will be plenty of food vendors, plus wineries and cideries for those who prefer those styles. As for the brewery lineup, with beer lists where available, here goes. If we get any additional lists, we will update the post. While most of the big breweries are skipping out this year, there are some new (The 377) and newer (Enchanted Circle, Palmer, Starr Brothers) places involved.

  • The 377: Robust Porter, Black IPA, Dunkelweissen, Hoppy Session IPL, Scottish Export, Imperial Cream Ale
  • Albuquerque: High Plains Drafter Blonde Ale, Dunkelweizen, Imperial Red Ale; Tom’s Green Chile Amber Ale in VIP Tent (Saturday)
  • Bosque: Bosque Lager, Elephants on Parade, Riverwalker IPA, Brewers Boot Amber, Driftwood Oatmeal Stout, El Dorado SMASH, Old Man Jameson, Pale Oak
  • Canteen: TBA
  • Enchanted Circle: Glory Hole IPA, Red River Red, ESB; Plum Wheat Sour in VIP Tent (Saturday)
  • Firkin: TBA
  • Kaktus: TBA
  • Palmer: MWA Blue Corn Malt Liquor, Palmer’s Pale Ale, Guero (Belgian Wit)
  • Ponderosa: TBA regular lineup; Stage One Belgian IPA in VIP Tent (Saturday)
  • Rio Bravo: TBA
  • Sandia Chile Grill: TBA regular lineup; Big Raz in VIP Tent (Sunday)
  • Santa Fe: TBA regular lineup; Lemon Skynyrd in VIP Tent (Saturday)
  • Starr Brothers: Don’t Fear the RIPA (Red IPA), Lampshade Porter, StarrStruck IPA, Rosin Dubh, L.A. Woman, Electric Sun; Planet of the Ape-rricots in VIP Tent (Saturday)

New Mexico True Fest

When: Saturday and Sunday, noon to 9 p.m. Where: EXPO New Mexico, Albuquerque. How to get there: Unless you want to take the bus, drive over, or better yet, Uber. How much: Admission is free, but you will have to pay for beer, and a lot of other things (food, rides, etc.).

The first NMTF has a swanky website and all (the link is above), but it is not much for key details, like the cost of things. It does not even really say whether or not you get samples, limited or unlimited, or whether you are just purchasing pints. We have asked for details, but it is hard to say whether or not we will receive that information. In other words, I guess everyone will just have to be brave and go for it. UPDATE: A friend of the Crew found the info. There will be no sampling, it is just pints for sale. All pints will be $7.50.

Take note, there will also be live music, a food truck rally, and there will be rides working on the State Fair Midway (those do require separate, paid tickets). In addition, the New Mexico Wine & Jazz Festival will be going on concurrently elsewhere on the Fairgrounds. Peruse the brewery lineups below, and pick which day you would prefer. Or, go crazy and do both.

Saturday lineup

  • La Cumbre: TBA
  • Lizard Tail: TBA
  • Quarter Celtic: Pedro O’Flanagan’s Mexican Lager, Quarter Porter, Vienna Lager, You Reek of Pale Ale
  • Santa Fe: TBA
  • Sidetrack: TBA
  • Tractor: TBA

Sunday lineup

  • Bow & Arrow: Wayward Arrow Hefeweizen, Crossed Arrows Scotch Ale
  • Boxing Bear: New Mexikolsch, Ambear, Uppercut IPA, La Flama Blanca, Cider
  • Enchanted Circle: Ron Burganator Doppelbock, Glory Hole IPA, Panty-Tosser Peach Wheat, Red River Red, ESB
  • Rio Bravo: TBA
  • Taos Mesa: TBA

As noted before, if we get additional info, we will update these lists.

Otherwise, have fun this holiday weekend, but as always, be careful out there.
