The Week Ahead in Beer: Go ahead and give that new brew the wildest name

Stoutmeister will have you covered for all things new in beer and brewery events every week.

We start off this week with a little tip o’ the cap to Bow & Arrow, which continues to mine the lyrics of classic songs to come up with some truly wonderful and creative names for its beers. This week, the brewery is releasing a new hazy IPA called Like a Diamond in the Desert, Like a Beacon in the Night. Give credit where it’s due, in a country with thousands of breweries all struggling to name their packaged beers and not run afoul of another brewery’s trademark, Bow & Arrow has found a fun path around those sorts of issues. Now if only we could convince them to use some classic metal lyrics. Who wouldn’t want a helles called “Hell and Fire was Spawned to be Released”?

New Draft:

Brew Lab 101 tapped Sienna Red IPA. Nexus brought back the award-winning Beam Me Up (Higher) Scotty at the original location last weekend, and will tap it at Nexus Blue Smokehouse this weekend. Sidetrack crossed over to the Fifth Dimension with its new IPA. (UPDATES) Canteen tapped Good Boy Rosco Hazy IPA and Social Capital (Cherry Lime Kettle Sour). Kaktus rolled out Italian Pilsner, American Wheat, and Cucumber Blonde. Marble tapped Summer Citrus Wheat.

Up in Santa Fe, Rowley Farmhouse Ales pulled Built to Chill, its new Vienna lager, out of the tanks after a lengthy lagering. Tumbleroot released a tripleheader of Golden Bear IPA, Coco Hops Brown IPA, and Blushing Tart Wit. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing felt a might bit patriotic with the release of Independence Lager. (UPDATE) Hidden Mountain will tap South Island Pilsner, made with New Zealand hops, on Friday.

New Package:

Bow & Arrow has rolled out the aforementioned Like a Diamond in the Desert, Like a Beacon in the Night in cans and on draft. Santa Fe Brewing released a new summer seasonal, Slightly Social (Orange/Tangerine Wheat Ale), in cans and on draft. Sidetrack put Crossroads Pilsner and Strawberry Moon in cans. (UPDATES) Bow & Arrow will also release Rancho Light Lager, sans lime, in cans and on draft this Friday. Ex Novo has more Cactus Wins the Lottery in cans and on draft. Gravity Bound went crazy and created Double Take, the DIPA version of their IPA Challenge-winning Quick Take Hazy IPA, and it’s now available in cans and on draft.
