The Great American Beer Festival held its annual awards ceremony Saturday morning in Denver, with two New Mexico breweries earning medals in a competition that featured 2,033 breweries and 9,300-plus entered beers.

Marble Brewery earned a silver medal in the Dortmunder or German-Style Oktoberfest category for Thunder from Dortmunder. That delicious lager previously won a bronze back in 2013. This year’s category had 134 entries. It marked the 12th medal overall for Marble, tying the brewery with Canteen/Il Vicino for the most all-time from New Mexico.

Flix Brewhouse won a medal for the second straight year, this time a bronze in the Juicy or Hazy Strong Pale Ale category (140 total entries) for Tropical Mirage. Flix won a silver last year for ABQ Lucha Libre.

This year marked the fewest medals for New Mexico breweries since 2010, when only Chama River won a single medal for its 3 Dog Night Baltic Porter.

We will catch up with the winners when they return to Albuquerque next week.
