The Week Ahead in Beer: Enjoy a little bit of anything and everything

Stoutmeister will have you covered for all things new in beer and brewery events every week.

This is shaping up to be one of those scattered weeks, without a singular theme, but still with a lot to do and quite a few new beers to enjoy. There’s some comedy, a couple monthly events (one with a decidedly fun 80s theme), a little metal, a vendor market, and of course the first round of the New Mexico Brewers Guild IPA Challenge. That will take place at Nuckolls Brewing in Santa Fe on Saturday afternoon. We have a whole feature on Nuckolls running later this week, so expect even more info tucked away in there. Or just go back to our last IPAC story and find the ticket link and such. As for the beers, well, let’s get to those, shall we?

New Draft:

Bosque recently tapped Simcoe Pils, which hit the spot on a hot day at the recent For the Love of Lagers festival. Casa Vieja added Pale Ale Cool J. La Cumbre tapped Chasing Clouds, a hazy DIPA, and Washington vs. Oregon, a West Coast IPA. Marble added Flight Simulator, a hazy DIPA. Thirsty Eye tapped Crispy Koi, a rice lager that also debuted over at For the Love of Lagers. (UPDATES) Bombs Away dropped a fresh batch of Initiator Light Lager. Bosque tapped a new batch of Participation Ribbon Juicy IPA, which won the NMIPAC last year. Canteen has more Cabana Mexican Lager on tap, with cans to follow next week, plus Radiohead IPA is back. Harmon Lane tapped the new Coaches Kolsch. La Reforma added a new Hefeweizen. Marble tapped El Nectarino, a barrel-aged German golden ale with nectarines and brettanomyces, and then went big with Alpha Acid Trip, a triple IPA that checks in at 10.2-percent ABV. Sobremesa added Raspberry Sour Wheat. Thirsty Eye has a new batch of Odin’s Monocle, their special tea-infused small-batch version of Odin’s Eye, this time with strawberry tea from Old Barrel Tea Company. Turtle Mountain brought back Get Bock Inside and debuted Agent Orange Hazy DIPA, though only at the North Taproom. Unhinged tapped Blood Orange Wheat.

Up in Santa Fe, Beer Creek will bring back Pecos Brown Ale on Friday, and also announced that Mas Alta is the new year-round West Coast IPA. Second Street tapped Motueka Juicy Pale Ale. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing will tap Kickback Session IPA on Thursday.

New Package:

Bow & Arrow will release Desert Dynamo, a New Zealand hop-heavy pilsner, in cans and on draft this Friday, with a second beer also in the works (but still TBA as of publication). Boxing Bear has a fresh batch of El SomBEARo Mexican Lager in cans and on draft. La Cumbre will release PLS German Pilsner in cans and on draft this Friday. Second Street has Mylodon Hazy DIPA coming soon in cans and on draft. (UPDATES) Bow & Arrow’s second beer of the week will be Canyon Crust, a red saison ale, also available in cans and on draft. Boxing Bear brought back their award-winning Bear Knuckle IPA in cans and on draft. La Cumbre will also release Juntos, an IPA for fire relief that benefits the communities affected by the recent disasters in Ruidoso, in cans and on draft this Friday. Santa Fe Brewing defies summer, again, and will release Oktoberfest in cans and on draft this Friday.

Quick News Bits:

A Friday update from the New Mexico Brewers Guild: Unfortunately, the ticket sales were too low at Lauter Haus Brewing in Farmington for the second round of the IPA Challenge, so that round has now been cancelled. There will just be the Santa Fe and Albuquerque rounds.

Tickets for the 2024 New Mexico IPA Challenge are now on sale from the NM Brewers Guild via Eventbrite. The public rounds are Saturday at Nuckolls Brewing in Santa Fe, July 20 at Lauter Haus Brewing in Farmington, and July 27 at Bow & Arrow Brewing.

Just in case anyone missed it, Ex Novo has been forced to postpone the opening of their new location in downtown Albuquerque. We have long said that the final step of getting the doors open for any brewery is the steepest step of all, and once again, we’re sadly proven right.

Turquoise Trail Brewing, which closed down in Albuquerque a while ago, has now reopened in Moriarty. We will be heading out there once their own beers are on tap (just guest taps to start) to check out the new space.

Another new brewery? Another new brewery, as The Tatted Bee Brewhouse has taken over the former Black Snout location at Juan Tabo and Menaul.

In case anyone missed the early preview, Dripline Brewery is moving closer toward opening later this year in the Wells Park neighborhood.

In case anyone missed the other big news, Vision City is headed west to take over the former Boxing Bear Corrales space.
