Fete de la Funk summons all those beer lovers with a peculiar palate

The spacious Flock of Moons patio will play host a NM Brewers Guild festival for the first time.

It’s almost time to pucker up for the next festival from the New Mexico Brewers Guild. Fete de la Funk takes place this Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at Flock of Moons Brewing, bringing together a mix of 12 sour and funky brews from 10 different breweries.

Tickets are still available, but they are not unlimited and going fast per the Eventbrite website, so we do suggest you buy them online just in case none are left at the door. Every ticket includes sample tokens for every beer, a full pour of your favorite, and you can keep the commemorative glass.

“Fete de la Funk, you know I have a passion for sours, saisons, and funky beers,” executive director Ebbie Edmonston told us for the NMBG’s Look Back/Look Ahead Series article last month. “This is a passion project.”

Edmonston was kind enough to provide us, and the world via social media, the full list of participating breweries and the beers they are bringing to the Flock of Moons patio.

  • Canteen Brewhouse — Social Capital: American kettle sour blended with cherry, lime, and raspberry
  • Flock of Moons — Coven of the Pink Moon: Raspberry Berliner Weisse
  • Flock of Moons — Lunar Winter 2025: Sour saison brewed with Viognier and Pinot Gris grape must
  • La Cumbre Brewing — Pina Quercus: Sour farmhouse ale aged in tequila barrels with pineapple
  • La Cumbre Brewing — Persica Quercus: Sour farmhouse ale aged in white wine barrels with peaches
  • Nuckolls Brewing — Apple Pie Express: Apple pie goes
  • Ponderosa Brewing — Tropical Trifecta: Kettle sour with passionfruit, dragonfruit, and mango
  • Rio Bravo Brewing — Chamoy Mango Tajin Sour: It’s all in the name
  • Rowley Farmhouse Ales — Brett IPA: Experimental IPA with brett, dry hopped with Eldorado
  • Second Street Brewery — Southpaw Sour: Kettle sour with apricot
  • Steel Bender Brewyard — Double Triple Berry Pie Dynamite: Double pastry sour with blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and Sicilian lemon (contains lactose)
  • Thirsty Eye Brewing — Morte de Rire: Imperial saison with tea

There will also be some funky live music from Kookie Jones & the Groove Maneuvers from 12:30 to 3:30, and Ocean Desert will provide the food (plus you can order from any other surrounding restaurant in the Bricklight District). For those that need an address refresher, Flock of Moons is located at 111 Harvard Dr SE, just south of Central.

And yes, if the sours get to be too much, you can always pop inside Flock of Moons for a palate-cleansing pint. No one will judge you, or so the folks involved have told me since they totally expect me to be that guy.

Keep supporting local!

i was wet, cold and it was snowing hard at Flock of Moons on Saturday. And yet it was somehow the most fun I’ve had in a long time. The fire pit was VERY popular! Laguna green chili cheese burgers never tasted so good. Great beers. Rowleys Bret IPA was spectacular. Can’t wait for next year’s event…
