Boxing Bear cleans up with 3 gold medals at NABA Beer and Cider Awards

Two of the Boxing Bear winners, Helles Good on the left and Black Mesa Dunkel on the right, from a recent taproom visit.

The North American Brewers Association held their annual International Beer and Cider Awards competition recently, with winners announced late last week. Boxing Bear claimed three gold medals and Quarter Celtic picked up a bronze to represent New Mexico.

Boxing Bear won for Albumurky in the Hazy or Juicy IPA category, Black Mesa Dunkel in the Munich-Style Dark category, and Helles Good in the Helles Lager category. The nice thing about the timing of this announcement is that all of those beers are currently on tap at both Boxing Bear locations, with Albumurky also available in four-packs.

Quarter Celtic nabbed their award for Clean Pair of Schwarz in the Schwarzbier category. At last check, it is also still on tap.

As there is no comprehensive list of entries, we do not know if any other New Mexico breweries submitted beers to the competition.

Other notable breweries that competed and won included Alaskan Brewing, Big Sky Brewing, Deschutes Brewery, Epic Brewing, Melvin Brewing, Pelican Brewing, Prost Brewing, Templin Family Brewing, Tommyknocker Brewery, and Uinta Brewing. Oregon’s Breakside Brewery led all competitors with 13 medals, nearly twice as many as Deschutes, which tied for second with seven.

Keep supporting local!
