Bandolero becomes latest brewery on selling block as owners aim to retire

Bandolero Brewery, back when it was pretty new in 2022.

A while back, we wrote up on how the brewing industry in New Mexico is reaching a point where some owners are ready to retire and move along. It’s already happened in Angel Fire (Enchanted Circle was sold to the owners of Nuckolls), in Corrales (Casa Vieja was sold), and in Albuquerque (The 377, to the best of our knowledge, remains for sale).

Well, we can now add Bandolero Brewery in Clovis to the list. Albuquerque Business First reported Monday that the brewery on the block, with an asking price of $2.3 million. My cousin who lives in Clovis (Air Force wife) confirmed that this was known to the locals out there, and they are all very hopeful that it is successfully sold and remains open, as there are not a lot of gathering places in that town.

Since we are guessing that many of you do not have a subscription to ABF (but, by all means subscribe if you would like), we can summarize the article. The high asking price is because the current owners, Andrew and Mary Logan, said they are only using 25 percent of the available space in which to brew. They believe that the brewery can grow substantially under a new owner with greater ambition, up to and including adding a canning line for distribution in a part of the state where most breweries are just designed for on-site consumption only.

It is certainly an interesting pitch, so we will see if someone (or a collective of someones) with deep pockets wishes to take a chance on making Bandolero into a regional brewery for Eastern New Mexico instead of just a brewpub serving the residents of Clovis, Cannon Air Force Base, and those passing through or visiting family.

A few other notes before trekking off to the day job that is really more of a night job:

  • Nurvis Purvis Brewing is now open in Carlsbad, bringing that town’s total number of pubs up to three along with Guadalupe Mountain and Milton’s, the de facto O.G. of that growing beer scene. We will figure out a weekend to head on down there and check out the new place. You can check out some photos on Facebook and Instagram, or head down there on your own. Just remember, this is the toasty time of year in Southeast New Mexico.
  • With Nurvis Purvis open, the New Mexico Brewers Guild is back up to 50 active members. For the other 40 breweries in this state, what are you waiting for? Join the Guild!
  • Casa Vieja is looking for a head brewer. Check their social media pages for details on how to apply.
  • Speaking of other local publications, Albuquerque the Magazine is releasing a new app called Beers of the City. We will have more details on this one soon, including how it differs from the app that the City of Albuquerque released a few months ago.

Keep supporting local!
