Editor’s note: As anyone walking their dog could tell you this morning (or at least those of us dogsitting), the temperatures are dropping and the weather is becoming perfect for many variations of darker beers. Timing it just right, Franz Solo has a review of a locally-made, perfectly seasonal beer that is still for sale…

My IPA is too heady for this heat: Session IPA selections from Susan’s
In honor of IPA Day, I went in search of the best out-of-state Session IPAs that can be found in Santa Fe. Susan’s Fine Wine and Spirits (1005 S. St. Francis Drive) is my go-to place, conveniently located between home and office. I found the beer manager, Matt Zehnder, who was likely afraid I’d repeat my offense when I went in search of new-to-us Evil Twin brews a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, I took all the beer out of the boxes. Two hours old and not in your system? Don’t care. Here’s some money, I’m running out of the store with my spoils.
DSBC’s Hat Trick: Mostly Evil this week, but with a little Stillwater
DSBC Hat Trick is a weekly series dedicated to those craft beers from beyond the Land of Enchantment. Want to know what’s new and tasty in coolers gracing your favorite craft beer retailer? We’ve got you covered! Check out our three favorite picks for the week; you can’t go wrong with anything out of this…
Blue Corn’s Midnight Red is coming for your soul!
The Midnight Red is now available at Blue Corn Brewery. After a week on tap, it has certainly hit its stride. It’s been a while since Blue Corn released a beer as monstrous as this big, dark, malty Imperial Red Ale, and so I sat down with brewer James Warren to taste his beer and…
All hail the Land of Hopchantment!
As the member of the Brew Crew who adores hops probably the most of all, I have made it my mission of late to try each and every double IPA and high-IBU standard IPA to come out of our local breweries in the past couple of months. I was inspired by how well New Mexico…
Lo, the imperial reds doth battle for Burque supremacy
So I finally had a chance to try two ridiculously good imperial red ales from our good ol’ Duke City, and man, are they just straight out-spaced, out-awesome! I procured several bombers of Marble’s gold medal-winning Imperial Red and then a brace of La Cumbre’s Imperial Red Ryeot to do a proper review, well aged…
Blue Corn releases their big Barleywine at another Thursday at the Brewer’s Table
Blue Corn Brewery has been doing a few things very well recently. As a ‘beer journalist,’ it makes me glad to see a smaller brewery work so hard at all aspects of their business, whether it’s their food, service, beer, or planned events to further their brand. At every turn, it seems these guys are…
Patience, young Grasshopper, the beers are starting to arrive
Rio Rancho finally has another hometown beer. If you have ever doubted the demand for craft beers in “The City of Vision,” just keep reading. The Blue Grasshopper has been serving local beers from other breweries and their own wood-fired pizza since they opened late last year through the help of a Kickstarter campaign. Now,…
Santa Fe Brewing releases the ECS Belgian Strong Ale
Santa Fe Brewing Co. just released the latest brew in their Ever Changing Series, the (ECS) Belgian Strong Ale. It’s big, bold, and very Belgian. The 3 Bs of the powerful, yet un-hoppy brews. Now, before I get into exactly what I mean by all that, I want to discuss Belgian beers briefly to help…
Jackson and Silent Brandon’s Secret (Beer) Stash: Tweak from Avery Brewing
Okay, so this isn’t JUST for Stoutmeister and Brandon … but this is a new regular series to highlight those special new beers that only make seasonal, yearly, or one-off appearances in our local breweries and fine beer stores. Whether local or from some of the far reaches of the country or even world, we’ll…
