The Week Ahead in Beer—Only 4 days until 505 Five Collaboration Beer!

For the second consecutive week, this is E-Rock, bringing you beer news for the week ahead from all of the breweries in the greater Albuquerque metro area.  And once again, I may even expand to cover the rest of New Mexico once I get a little better at this (I’m guessing after Beer Week).  Before jumping head-first into beer news, allow me to highlight the new beer that is giving me a case of the happy Mondays.  It’s called the 505 Five Collaboration Beer, brewed by Chama River, Il Vicino, La Cumbre, Marble and Nexus.  505 Five goes on tap at all five breweries when each brewery opens this Friday!  Now onto the rest of the news that is fit to blog for the week of May 14:

E-Rock, left, has uncovered all the beers worth sneaking up on this week.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number (all are area code 505, for out-of-state readers) and hours of operation. Under “Beers” are the new or seasonal beers on tap for this week. And for those breweries that play host to musicians, I made sure to list who’s on the week’s set list.

ABQ Brew Pub — 884-1116

(Mon–Thurs 11 a.m.–midnight, Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–2 a.m., Sunday 10 a.m.–midnight)

Beers: Scottish Ale. This is the same beer listed last week. I plan on heading uptown to give this beer a taste before it’s gone.

Bad Ass Brewery — 918-2337

(Mon–Thurs 4 p.m.–10:30 p.m., Fri–Sat 3 p.m.–midnight, Sun noon–8 p.m.)

Beers: Triple Chocolate, Bitter Bock, Hop Zombie, C-Squared (Kolsch). Triple Chocolate and Bitter Bock are Bad Ass’ newest offerings. I had the Triple Chocolate when it was on tap in February. It tasted like hot cocoa, yet it was cold (and a beer, of course). Plus, the Triple Chocolate mixes well with many of Bad Ass’ lighter offerings such as ales and IPAs.

Broken Bottle Brewery — 890-8777

(Mon–Fri 4 p.m.–midnight, Sat noon–midnight, Sun noon–10 p.m.)

Beers: No new listings this week.

News: Starting Tuesday BBB will unveil their all new happy hour. Dollar off pints from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Chama River Brewing Company — 342-1800

(Sun–Thurs 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–midnight)

Beers: 505 Five Collaboration, Double Chama, 3 Dog Night, Crystal Pale, Chamarzen.  Other than the 505 Five, these were the same beers listed last week. Here are Stoutmeister’s thoughts on two of them: “The Double Chama is an imperial amber, but don’t let that scare you. It checks in at just over 7-percent ABV, with more hops and less sweetness than the regular amber. This is a solid beer, but be careful, it could sneak up on you if you’re not indulging in some of Chama’s excellent food. As for the Chamarzen, this is one of the best examples of a German beer in the city. Get to Chama ASAP and enjoy it before they run out. I will have to head back over once I’m fully healthy to enjoy the 3 Dog Night, a Baltic porter that won a medal at the GABF in 2010.” (As an update, I am healthy and will be enjoying 3 Dog Night on my belated b-day dinner this Wednesday. Il Vicino Brewing Canteen — 881-2737

(Sun–Thurs noon–10 p.m., Fri–Sat noon–midnight)

Beers: 505 Five Collaboration

News: IV Canteen will be serving up a cask of Cherry Brown for this week’s edition of Cask Wednesday.

La Cumbre Brewing — 872-0225

(Open every day at noon)

Beers: 505 Five Collaboration

Music: Weds — Taxi Dancer 7-10 p.m., Sat — Odd Dog 7-10 p.m.

Marble Brewery — 243-2739

(Mon–Sat 1 p.m.–midnight, Sun 1 p.m.–10:30 p.m.)

Beers: 505 Five Collaboration, India White Ale, Maibock. Marble is all out of Abby Darkness, a reminder to check out great seasonal beers before they are gone.

Music: Wed – Lonesome Heroes 7-10 p.m., Thurs — Shamani 8-11 p.m., Fri — Square One Quartet 8-11 p.m., Sat — Aladocious 8-11 p.m.

Nexus Brewery — 242-4100

(Mon–Thurs 2 p.m.–10 p.m., Fri–Sun 11 a.m.–midnight)

Beers: 505 Five Collaboration, Beam Me Up Scottish Ale (11% ABV). In addition to bringing us the 505 Five, Nexus will be releasing Beam Me Up Scottish Ale as part of their one-year anniversary on Sunday, May 18.

News: Nexus will be celebrating their first-year anniversary all day long on Sunday with music, their brand new Nexus Signature BBQ, and of course the Beam Me Up Scottish Ale.

Tractor Brewing Company — 433-5654 (Nob Hill Taproom)

(The Taproom opens most days around 3 p.m. and stays open as late as 2 a.m.; it opens earlier on weekends)

Beers: Witty (Belgian Wit). I had a pint of the Witty yesterday. This is a very sweet beer. Stoutmeister noted that the Witty looked like egg nog, but does not taste anything like it.

News: Tractor is participating in Pint for Pint on Saturday from noon to 4:30 p.m. at Tractor’s Taproom on Nob Hill. Pint for Pint is a blood drive sponsor by Isotopes Brewing Co. and Tractor Brewing Co. Donate blood and receive a pint glass from Isotopes Brewing Co., a $5 gift certificate from Tractor Brewing Co. and coupons for beer lovers. Reserve your space here.

Turtle Mountain Brewing Company — 994-9497

(Kitchen hours: Mon–Thurs 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–8:30 p.m.)

Beers: Arsenal Porter, Maibock.

News: Turtles Mountain’s sister restaurant, Timbuctu, is opening in Mariposa at 2500 Parkway, the northern part of Rio Rancho. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and have a wide variety of delicious food that is not served at Turtle Mountain. Call them at 369-3550 for more details.
