Though there is always the possibility that one may exist elsewhere in America, the Los Alamos Beer Cooperative is the first of its kind in New Mexico. Quietly, this co-op effort is seeking to open the first brewery in Los Alamos, with a reported target date of this fall.

Of course, hoping to open a brewery and getting a bunch of people together to do it are one thing. Finding the money is another. To that end, the co-op is holding a public fundraising event, tying it into beer, of course. It is not just a gathering of beer drinkers who want to drink beer, but instead the presentation of a documentary film.
“Crafting a Nation” is a documentary directed by Thomas Kolicko about the growing craft brewing industry in America. It has never been shown in New Mexico before, but it will be tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m. at the Reel Deal Theater. Tickets will cost $15 at the door. Santa Fe Brewing is generously providing beer for the event and there will be door prizes.
The proceeds will support the co-op and make their dream of a brewery in Los Alamos one step closer to reality.
For more info on the documentary, including a three-minute trailer, click here. For more info on the Los Alamos Beer Co-op, click here. Their website does a much better job explaining just what a co-op is and how it will work for a brewery than I ever could.
We wish everyone at the co-op good luck tonight. We would love to attend, but between work (or a lack thereof) and a prior commitment we will be stuck in Albuquerque on Thursday.
If you are in Los Alamos or nearby, please consider heading over to the theater and helping out.
Cheers!
