The Week Ahead in Beer: Membership has some tasty benefits

Posted: January 27, 2016 by cjax33 in The Week Ahead in Beer

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s four breweries and a pair of newcomers, one down in Socorro and the other in Los Alamos, also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

Remember back in our brewery membership guide when we said more places were going to make specialty beers available to members first? Well, Canteen is doing just that. Head brewer Zach Guilmette’s first original recipe since returning to Canteen will be a massive Double IPA, which Mug Club members get to try first Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. In addition to the DIPA, members also get to enjoy a special tequila barrel-aged, blended stout. If all of that sounds ridiculously amazing, now would probably be a good time to sign up for a membership at Canteen. They will be doing these types of special advance tastings throughout the year. There are a number of other breweries with similar plans for this year for their members. We will keep everyone informed whenever these happen. UPDATED: Tractor has done the same for their Beer Farmers Co-Op members for their Berry Cider advance release on Monday. You can check in with the brewery, but they have pretty much maxed out the list for that one. Carlos has told us that there will be another members-only advance tasting of Wizard Brew DIPA in the near future.

On the new beer front this week, Albuquerque Brewing has a new Imperial Red and Session IPA on tap. A trio of new beers hit Bosque late last week in The Schwarz Awakens, Simcoe Pils, and Just a Skosh, an Irish red. Canteen has brought back their popular Irish Red. Keeping up with this red theme, Happenstance Red is available at Distillery 365. Marble is off and Running With the Bull. Tractor will have their Berry Cider back for the general public on Tuesday.

Up in Santa Fe, Second Street has brought back Fulcrum IPA. Santa Fe Brewing has a fresh batch of Snowflake DIPA, plus they have added Coyote Brown Session IPA.

Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of January 25.
