Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Socorro, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.
Christmas on a weekend? Gotta admit, it has been a while since I can recall that happening. As such, our breweries have to alter their regular hours. At this point, we can confirm that everyone is closed on Christmas Day (Sunday). Most also have altered their hours for Christmas Eve (Saturday). To help out everyone in terms of getting those last minute gifts for others, or filling growlers for yourselves, here are all the times they have shared with us for Saturday:
- Boese Brothers: closed Saturday through Monday
- Bosque: all locations close at 6 p.m.
- Bow & Arrow: closing at 5 p.m., also note they will be closed Monday
- Boxing Bear: closing at 6 p.m.
- Canteen: closing at 3 p.m.
- Dialogue: open noon to 6 p.m., open noon to 5 p.m. on Monday
- Drafty Kilt: closing at 6 p.m.
- La Cumbre: open noon to 6 p.m.
- Pi: open 11 a.m. to 3:14 p.m. (natch)
- Quarter Celtic: open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Red Door: normal hours (see their entry below)
- Santa Fe: all locations open 11 a.m. to midnight
- Sidetrack: open noon to 4 p.m.
- Starr Brothers: closing at 9 p.m.
- Turtle Mountain: open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Blue Corn: open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Second Street: closing at 6 p.m.
- Twisted Chile: open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Jubilation Beer Wine & Spirits: open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sunday through Monday
Once we see the others post their times, we will update this list, because clearly we are still missing a lot of them. Share away, breweries!
Today (Wednesday) is also a great day because not one, but two epic beers are being released. Imperial Stout returns to Marble at all three locations with a special food pairing starting at 5 p.m. Meanwhile, Quarter Celtic will tap their imperial stout, Irish Handcuffs. Compare and contrast, though we would recommend spacing out your consumption of such big beers.
On the new beer front this week, there are a few other new options to check out, starting with the fact that The 377 Brewery has their first two house beers on tap — English Best Bitter and Session IPA! As such, they also have an entry down below between Starr Brothers and Tractor. As for the rest, there are some new ones to try before Christmas. Bosque serves up dessert in the form of Chocolate Porter. Boxing Bear has The Red Glove back on CO2 and for sale in bombers. The Solstice Blackout is back at Canteen, featuring Panama Joe, Operation Black Hops IPA, and a special Mexican Chocolate Panama Joe on nitro. Holly Mother of Quad arrives Thursday at Flix Brewhouse. There is a Russian invasion at La Cumbre with From Putin With Love. Quarter Celtic also introduces the much lighter All the WITty Names are Taken. Strong Scotch Ale and Vanilla Cream Ale are back at Red Door. Turtle Mountain goes big with Depravity, a monstrous barleywine.
Up in Santa Fe, Apparition Coffee Ale will wake you up at Blue Corn. Rowley Farmhouse Ales gets a little (hip) hoppy with Dr. Drei, a Brett black IPA, plus two special imperial stouts debut Friday. There are still four more beers to go in the 12 Beers of Christmas at Santa Fe Brewing (see their entry below). Festivus returns just in time at Second Street.
Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of December 19.
To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Under “Beers” are the new or seasonal beers on tap for this week.
