The Week Ahead in Beer: Resolve to try more new brews

Posted: January 4, 2017 by cjax33 in The Week Ahead in Beer

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Socorro, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

Every week we, well mostly I, endeavor to let you all know about the various new beers popping up around the Albuquerque and Santa Fe areas. I wonder how many of those new brews all of you get out there to try? Let’s face it, many of us are creatures of habit. We go to the same places, drink the same beers when we go there, and so on. If you have Untappd, go back to all the places you’ve checked into over 2016. See when the last time was you checked into a brewery besides your two or three favorites. Head out to the one you haven’t been to in the longest when you see a beer listed below that you are interested in, try it, have fun, and experience another brewery for a change. Show your support for all of our breweries in 2017.

One place you will not be able to visit to for a few days is Pi Brewing. Back on New Year’s Day, a car smashed into their building. No one was hurt, thankfully, but until repairs can be completed, they have to remain closed. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates. The Crew will share those updates when we see them posted.

On the new beer front this week, there are a few new options to check out. Boxing Bear brings back its behemoth, Vantablack Russian Imperial Stout. La Cumbre is feeling experimental with Pilot #8, a special new saison. Marble has their three From the Wood beers — La Blanche, La Rouge, La Brune — plus the Priddy Bueno Porter and Brown Extra. Ponderosa has Oud Bruin on tap and for sale in bombers. Clark IPA flies back into Quarter Celtic. Starr Brothers unveils a new London Porter. There are now seven house beers at The 377 Brewery; see their entry below for the full list.

Up in Santa Fe, it’s all quiet this week.

Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of January 2.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Under “Beers” are the new or seasonal beers on tap for this week.
