Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.
True story, one year, while in the midst of keeping this site filled with content while simultaneously covering the Albuquerque Isotopes and the high school spring sports tournaments, I completely forgot to get my mom a present for Mother’s Day. Desperate, I did what anyone would do in my situation — I got her a growler of her favorite local craft beer (Canteen Irish Red, to be exact). Mom told me that was sweet of me, but it was a one-time thing. The good news for all of us busy people this year is that La Cumbre is hosting a Mother’s Day Market on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Yes, we can still go out and drink delicious beer, while also getting that last-minute shopping done! Vendors will include Los Poblanos, Leela’s Body Cocktails, MADE by Holly Hennerty, Cody Saint Arnold, Chela Gurnee Jewelry, Prismatic Coffee, Ceinwen Wright Carrejo, and LuLaRoe Sarah Vito. Oh, and if one of the moms in your life will let you give her a beer present, there will be bottles of Fievre de Abricot available. That release party, tap and bottle, is the day before. You win, mom wins, everyone wins. Thanks, La Cumbre!
Another unique little event this weekend is Tractor’s The Great Growler Buy Back. If your shelves/closet/garage is cluttered with more growlers than you need, you can take them to Tractor Nob Hill on Friday and Saturday and exchange them for a $2 coupon you can use towards a beer. The growlers, and they can be from any brewery, will then be sent off to be recycled. Clear some clutter, enjoy some beer. Another win-win!
On the new beer front this week, there are a few new options to check out. Ale Republic is feeling summery with a fresh batch of Citrus Pale Ale, plus Tokyo Black makes its debut. Bosque is donating money to Polly’s Run with the new Polly’s Wheaty Lager. A fresh batch of The Red Glove will be back at Boxing Bear by the end of the week. Canteen is feeling happy, er, hoppy with fresh batches of Exodus and Grapefruit IPAs. Dialogue has a new Belgian wit, Hayes Days, and a new oatmeal stout, F yo Couch, another one of those truly unique names. Marble shakes up a fresh batch of Rita! The Vienna Lager is now on tap at both Nexus locations. Red Door opens up Rye Steam on Friday. Starr Brothers lagered up some Starrphire Pilsner. The 377 goes big with a new DIPA, Project El Cucuy.
Up in Santa Fe, Duel’s Cezanne Origine is now available for full pours and in bottles, both at the brewery and the ABQ taproom. Rowley Farmhouse Ales has a limited supply of a Simcoe dry-hopped Germophile (Berliner Weisse). Second Street brings back ESB and adds Pajarito Pale Ale.
Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of May 8.
