Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

At the end of April, another one of those signs of normalcy returned, as Rowley Farmhouse Ales released Easy Lover, a honey beer made in collaboration with Arizona’s Superstition Meadery. It was, to the best of our knowledge, the first collaboration with an out-of-state brewery or other fermenting business since the start of the pandemic. Now we’ve got another collaboration coming this week, as Bow & Arrow is releasing Macho Triple Hazy IPA on Friday. This lovely beast of a beer was made alongside the good folks from Outer Range Brewing in Frisco, Colorado. There will be an online presale starting Thursday (see the link to the online store with the B&A capsule below), with the remaining four-pack cans on sale the day after. The thought of brewers from outside New Mexico coming here to help make a beer during the height of a pandemic would have been crazy, but now that things are opening up again as vaccinations rise, we can again start to see these types of collaborations. Frankly, we consider it a beautiful sight, and it offers us another glimmer of hope, in beer form, as 2021 keeps rolling in the right direction.

As for other new can releases this week, one of two announced so far is Dr. Ink Me IPA, a collaboration with Boxing Bear and Gallo Negro Tattoo, which comes out Saturday. We will have a lot more on this latest team-up between a brewery and artists in a separate story. Also, Steel Bender brings back a 2020 favorite with Lloyd’s Summer Vacation on Thursday.

On the new draft beer front this week, there some fresh options to check out for pints or crowler/growler fills. Boxing Bear socks it to everyone with Lucille Pale Ale. Canteen gets ready for the warmer times with Summer Ale while also (UPDATE) dropping Smashcade IPA. Casa Vieja brings back Just in Time Pale Ale. Ex Novo recently resurrected Oat of Touch, a delicious oatmeal stout, while also adding Cosette’s Revenge, which lead brewer Wes Burbank called “the best farmhouse ale that I have ever made.” Gravity Bound added Seed Trail, a new fruited sour, and will also have Land Walker, a New England IPA, on tap this Friday. High and Dry also hops on the haze craze with Noskohatu, another NEIPA. La Cumbre tapped Blanche de Burque. Marble played around with the new version of the El Dorado hop to create City of Gold IPL, plus they brought back Amber Lager. Nexus sweetens the deal with Strawberry Milkshake IPA. Rio Bravo goes big with Double D IPA. (UPDATE) Sidetrack keeps it light some Kellerbier.

Up in Santa Fe, Hidden Mountain rolls out a past award-winner with Gatekeeper IPA.
