Here we are, what year is this? Beats me (Franz Solo). Nothing is quite as it was. Up is down, stout is IPA (Cascadian dark!), left is Tuesday, hawks and handsaws, or something of the sort. This year does begin somewhat ominously, with another onslaught of post-holiday COVID cases and the expected chaos which stems from that. So keep an eye out on social media for closures, be kind to your brewery staff (they’re pretty much all understaffed right now), support local, and do your best to stay healthy and safe out there. Let us hope this Omicron wave crests and washes out to sea soon, but who the hell knows at this point? One upcoming change of note: starting next week, we will no longer be listing events/live music/etc. under each brewery capsule, but rather highlight unique and beer-centric events in our introduction. We’ve (Stoutmeister and I) thought about this a bit recently, and it comes down to time and effort. We do this weekly posting out of our love of beer, in our own free time. I hope that those who miss these sections will understand. You can still find all of this information on individual brewery and taproom websites/Instagram/Facebook pages. Let us focus, therefore, on the beer.
Bosque gets tropical with Tangerine Riverwalker IPA. Bow & Arrow has a double release this Friday with Wow. Pow. (cherry cobbler inspired fruited sour), and Paradox of Choice (west coast hazy IPA). Ex Novo will tap Where The Mild Things Are (English mild ale) this Friday. Gravity Bound tapped No Time to Idle, a dry-hopped fruited sour. Marble tapped their Blackberry Gose. Quarter Celtic has Irish Handcuffs imperial stout on tap now. Steel Bender’s Pour Vida Coffee Porter arrives Thursday on standard draft, and on nitro. Tractor will be releasing Luna De Los Muertos Russian Imperial Stout on Friday. (UPDATES) Bosque tapped Club Grimly, a frapuccino porter, on Friday. Sidetrack tapped Italian Pilsner also on Friday, and also has a cask of Duke of Earl, the Pub Ale blended with Earl Grey tea.
Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row has tapped Native Land Hazy IPA (part of Bow & Arrow’s national collaboration). (UPDATES) Up in Santa Fe, Tumbleroot added Helles in Wonderland on tap, and has draft available of its new Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout. Hidden Mountain will have a cask of Guava Berliner Weisse and release their Pick Your Krausen Berliner Weisse this Friday.
Bow & Arrow have a double release this Friday with Wow. Pow. (cherry cobbler inspired fruited sour), and Paradox of Choice (west coast hazy IPA). (UPDATE) Wow. Pow. has been held back until Friday, January 14. Gravity Bound has put No Time to Idle in cans, too. (UPDATES) Second Street just canned Sloppy Sloth Mosaic Hazy IPA. Tumbleroot bottled its Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout. Ex Novo will have cans of Where The Mild Things Are (English mild ale) this Friday. Rio Bravo has started a new run of specialty beers called the First Friday series, which opens this Friday with Occu-Pied, a Boston cream pie pastry stout.
Today (Wednesday) — ReSource is hosting its first notable onsite event with Ky’s 80s & 90s Music Trivia from 6 to 8 p.m.
Tractor has Poetry and Beer back at Wells Park starting at 7 p.m., and it will include the Albuquerque Poetry Slam, a spoken word contest judged by the audience, with a $50 grand prize.
Saturday — The Desert Darlings are back at Tractor Wells Park for Hops & Dreams: The Loteria Edition, starting at 7 p.m.
