The Week Ahead In Beer: Stout Month Rolls On

The dynamic duo of Franz Solo, left, and Stoutmeister will have you covered every week for new beer releases and more.

Another Super Bowl and Stout Challenge have come and gone. Now we make the long march to St Patrick’s Day, and await all of the delicious Irish red ales and stouts which come with the holiday (there are a few on tap now, so we can get a head start!). As for the present, there are not too many releases or events this week owing to the double holiday weekend that just passed, though I’ll wager a few more will pop up later this week. A couple of gems leap to my mind in this week’s new releases however; I bet you’d never guess which ones I’m dreaming about. Have a lovely week out there, everyone.

New Draft:

Canteen has Irish Red back on tap. JUNO tapped Sour Bebe, a sour with blackberries, over the weekend. Look for a Helles at Ponderosa once Peach Wheat runs out. Steel Bender’s Churro Brickie American Stout arrives Thursday. (UPDATES) Casa Vieja tapped Wizard of Izz Lager, named for their server, Isabelle. Marble rolled out a classic Porter. Sidetrack added Nitro Seca Stout with Coffee, and followed that up with Dortmunder. Quarter Celtic just tapped an American Brown Ale and a Vienna Lager.

On the other side of the Sandias, Rumor has tapped Dean’s Pale Ale.

Up in Santa Fe, Hidden Mountain will tap Apocalipstick Red on Friday. Tumbleroot has tapped Double Sunset (all the way!) DIPA.

Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row has tapped Ranch School Rustic Ale and Little Bird Blonde.

New Package:

Bosque will have Brewers Bruises (Blueberry and Lavender Gose) this Friday. Bow & Arrow has cans of Surf the Mesa (West Coast IPA), and Tumbleweeds & Teslas (Hazy IPA). Gravity Bound will have cans of Fly Away Home (Table Sour) this Friday. (UPDATE) Canteen now has six-packs of Dark and Lusty Stout and Irish Red available.

Notable Events:

As we noted recently, we are no longer listing events with each brewery capsule, but we will always include a few notable events here. As one might expect after the double holiday, this week looks very, very quiet.

Today (Wednesday) — The previously postponed Poetry & Beer returns to Tractor Wells Park at 7 p.m.

Thursday — Canteen Brewhouse is hosting the album release party for the High Desert Playboys from 6 to 9 p.m.

As always, if we have missed any beers or events, please email us at nmdarksidebrewcrew@gmail.com or contact us on social media.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Instead of “Beers” being an all-encompassing list of seasonal/specialty offerings, we are now splitting everything into “Draft/Crowler/Growler Fills” for beers poured from the taps, and “Cans/Bottles” for pre-packaged beers. All beers listed are subject to change.

  1. William Waggoner says:

Curious question.  The website for a new taproom in Carnuel states Rock Canyon Taproom by Lizard Tail Brewing.  Do you know if this is a new offsite taproom or are they just featuring Lizard Tail brews?  I thought they were going to brew their own beers so the Lizard Tail additional was a surprise to me.  Cheers, Kent
