The Week Ahead In Beer: Irish I had a little bit more stout!

The dynamic duo of Franz Solo, left, and Stoutmeister will have you covered every week for new beer releases and more.

The Ides of Smarch (it may be a made up month from The Simpsons, but we denizens of Burque all know the fickle and ever changing nature of this particular month) are upon us! Stouts, Irish Red Ales, meats, potatoes, cabbage, green beer, and stout cakes mean that spring has nearly sprung! This one hits a little different, a little more close to the heart since we were robbed of what is one of our favorite celebratory times of year for 2020 and 2021 (damn you, COVID). So anyway, the weather is typically Smarchy (Burque springtime rules apply) — patios one day, winter gear the next. It’s all good. Enjoy some brews and celebrations for St. Patrick’s Day, with spring break on deck. Slainte!

New Draft:

La Cumbre has tapped Pogue Mahone (Dry Irish Stout), and will have Lager Softly on Friday. Marble will have its annual St. Patrick’s Day Stout, Paddy McNitro, available Thursday. ReSource Brewing will be tapping their annual green beer, Drowning in Shamrocks (Czech Imperial Lager) this Thursday. Steel Bender has Bourbon Barrel-Aged Amelia Belgian Quad (draft only and quite limited) available today (Wednesday), plus Blue Bullet Stout Nitro will be available on Thursday. Thirsty Eye has tapped Lean Layer (Amber Lager). Toltec will have Green Beer on tap and Chocolate Vanilla Stout on draft and nitro this Thursday. Tractor added another batch of Turkey Drool for the spring. Turtle Mountain will have Snakedriver Irish Dry Stout on nitro very soon. (UPDATES) Bosque tapped a Märzen in March, which is actually kinda fitting. La Cumbre added a Helles and Crystal Keller on draft only. Sidetrack brought back Buzz Bomb.

Up in Santa Fe, Second Street will have some new stouts on tap for St. Patrick’s Day, but they’re holding back the names for now. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row tapped their Munich Dunkel Lager and Irish Red Ale. Further north, Red River Brewing tapped Sunshine Rye Ale. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing added more Choco Raspberry Porter. (UPDATES) Hidden Mountain added Cerveza Fresca, a lager with lime juice and hibiscus. Tumbleroot tapped White Rabbit Wit, the first in a new series.

New Package:

Ex Novo brings back Puff Puff Passion in cans this week. La Cumbre will have Lager Softly cans available on Friday. (UPDATE) Bow & Arrow canned its new kellerbier, Lavaland.

Notable Events:

As we noted recently, we are no longer listing events with each brewery capsule, but we will always include a few notable events here.

This week, we’ll have a St. Patrick’s Day events article full of everything (there’s lots to choose from) that’s going on, courtesy of Stoutmeister on Thursday morning.

Saturday — Bosque will be hosting an Art Party at Bosque North from 4 to 9 p.m. Brew Lab 101 will have an 80’s Dance Party with DJ Batboy and DJ Ren from 7 p.m. onward.

As always, if we have missed any beers or events, please email us at nmdarksidebrewcrew@gmail.com or contact us on social media.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Instead of “Beers” being an all-encompassing list of seasonal/specialty offerings, we are now splitting everything into “Draft/Crowler/Growler Fills” for beers poured from the taps, and “Cans/Bottles” for pre-packaged beers. All beers listed are subject to change.
