The Week Ahead in Beer: Cantina Craftworks set to debut at Brekki Brekki

Stoutmeister will have you covered for all things new in beer and brewery events every week.

After various delays, mostly not of their own making, Brekki Brekki is finally holding their grand opening this Friday starting as early as 7 a.m. The all-day breakfast restaurant is located at 8338 Comanche Blvd NE in the old B2B Garden Brewery spot, just west of Wyoming. Rather than just be a restaurant, the owners decided to keep both the B2B brewing equipment and brewer Julian Nunez, who will create a whole new lineup of beers under the brand Cantina Craftworks. The beer will also be available at other restaurants under the company umbrella, including nearby Poki Poki Cevicheria, plus Tamashi and Poke Serrano. We did try to get over there to try the beers prior to the opening, but our schedules never matched up, so we will just have to drop by Friday around lunchtime and see if we can snag a flight. With luck, we should have a quick story up in the afternoon before heading down to the NM United tailgate. We look forward to raising a glass to the Albuquerque metro area’s 48th operational brewery to kick off the weekend.

And, before anyone asks what about that other forthcoming brewery, we can report that Dripline is getting closer than ever down at Second Street and Summer in Wells Park. The brewery now has an active small brewer license listed on the state website (which is working again, save for not having pending licenses listed). When they have more news to share, we will follow up.

New Draft:

Bombs Away recently launched Galaxy Session IPA. Bosque is already dreaming of hockey season with Zamboni Sunset, a dry-hopped golden ale. Casa Vieja tapped their Festbier. Gravity Bound brought back a fan favorite in Serious Rizz, a rice lager, and also introduced Faster than Gallup, a new hazy IPA. Steel Bender is teaming up with a local radio station, The Peak, for Monday Night Football games all season. There will be drink and food specials, and one of the hosts of the station will be there every game from 6 p.m. until halftime. Stay tuned for more details.

Sad news, as Ex Novo’s Lagerhosen has been postponed until 2025. There just wasn’t enough time to prepare the downtown taproom for an event of such magnitude by September 14.

Nuckolls Brewing has announced that it has 15 more taps (!) now online, so there will be even more beer (and wine) flowing at the Santa Fe Railyard.

    Hey there,

    Hi there–

Our Thursday night beer group visited Red Door on Central Ave last Thursday, and we were told that the only house beer available was their last keg of red ale. We asked the server what was up with that, and he said they had lost their brewing contract and would no longer serve house beer. Even their website now identifies as “Red Door Drinkeries” and makes no mention of (house) beer. I see they are still on your list, so I thought I’d share our experience.

Thanks for the heads up. We’ve been trying to find out what Red Door’s plan would be going forward, and it looks like this is it. They sold their brewhouse long ago and were contract brewing at Rio Bravo. We’ll always have memories of brewing collab beers at the Candelaria space.
