The Week Ahead in Beer: Canteen asks us all to run for Ruidoso

Stoutmeister will have you covered for all things new in beer and brewery events every week.

Unless you have been avoiding the news (not that we can blame you) for the past few weeks, you have probably seen that once again Ruidoso has been hit by some dramatic, and deadly, flash floods. The burn scars from last year’s big wildfires have left parts of the town especially susceptible to flooding, causing damage, taking lives, and hurting a town that relies heavily on tourism as its primary source of income. While the good news is that Downshift Brewing is still open at both locations and thriving (Lost Hiker is temporarily closed while dealing with new licensing related to a recent change in ownership), the town as a whole could use a boost from its friends up here in Albuquerque. Canteen Brewhouse has stepped up to provide some help, hosting Run for Ruidoso this coming Monday. For a $20 donation, you get a pint of beer or root beer, a raffle ticket, and most importantly the knowledge that your money will go to the Community Fund of Lincoln County (which Downshift has told us in the past is the best way to assure that help gets to the people and businesses that need it the most in Ruidoso). The run is a 5K, but it’s certainly not a competition or anything, so take your time if you need to out there. It all starts at 7 p.m. at the brewery on Aztec. We raise our glasses to Canteen and thank them for once again stepping up to help. If you would like to help further, head on down to Ruidoso and spend a weekend showing the town a little extra love. Most of it is safe and open for business.

New Draft:

Bosque tapped Floral and Fading, a honey lavender wheat. Flock of Moons recently brought back Vollmond, their German pilsner. Hops Brewery is jumping ahead a season with the return of Hoptoberfest.
