There may never come a time again that we all truly appreciate that nice cover on the patio at Sidetrack Brewing quite like we will Saturday afternoon.
After all, it’s expected to be 90 degrees out, the first time in Albuquerque history that has happened before May. Good thing there will be a lineup of excellent beers available for the Cask Festival from noon to 4 p.m.
There may still be a few tickets available, but it would come as a shock and a half if it does not sell out as it has done every year prior. The setup is the same as ever, with a lineup of unique cask beers on the patio, each from a different brewery around the state.
Upon arrival, you get a little bag of tokens that add up to one for each cask. There is also one for a full pint of your favorite beer.
To help entice those on the fence about attending, we asked Sidetrack head brewer Cordell Rincon for the list of beers, and here is what will be available.
- Bathtub Row: English IPA (6.8 ABV/55 IBU) with Thomas Fawcett Halcyon and Crystal malts, Bramling Cross with EKG and Zappa hops
- Boxing Bear: Chinook Mountain IPA (7% ABV)
- Canteen: Moonwashed and Sun-Kissed Fruited Hazy IPA (8.3/33) — A soft juice bomb bursting with ripe pineapple, grapefruit, and bright citrus from Centennial, El Dorado, and Simcoe hops
- Ex Novo: Mass Ascension (7%) with Quantum hop oils
- Flock of Moons: Brighid’s Mantle Irish Stout (4.1/31) hopped with Citra
- Gravity Bound: Czech Lager (5%)
- La Cumbre: Sky Burner Hazy IPA (6.8%) hopped with Centennial whole-leaf hops

- Ponderosa: Rip Saw Red Ale (6.5/60) dry hopped with Cascade and Chinook
- Second Street: The Full English (6.6/66) an IPA made pale in color, balanced and complex featuring English Maris Otter malts and EKG hops along with its progeny Chinook and Citra
- Sidetrack: Pub Ale dry hopped with Cascade hops
- Steel Bender: Red Iron Red IPA (8.0/60) with cognac chips
- Thirsty Eye: El Drac IPA (5.8/63) with Island Grove Tea Blend
- Tractor: Otra Vez (5.0/22) Mexican lager with salt and lime
- Turtle Mountain: 27th Anniversary Tropical Ale, pineapple and mango puree with toasted pineapple and New Zealand hops
Lagers, IPAs, stouts, fruited beers, a little bit of everything for everyone. We will say this, whichever one calls out to you as your probable favorite, there may be one that surprises you and takes the crown.
Rando’s Food Truck will be on hand if you get hungry, you can duck inside for some air conditioning, and in the end this is just one of those laid-back mini-festivals with something for everyone.
Grab a ticket and we will see you there. You can watch the NCAA Tournament later. Your bracket will be fine, unless High Point and VCU blew it out of the water already.
Keep supporting local!
