Day Two of ABQ Beer Week rolls along with the release of the 505-Five Collaboration beer, a hoppy, yet malty, imperial-strength beast of a beer that lies somewhere between a red and an IPA. It will be available today/tonight at Chama River, Il Vicino, La Cumbre, Marble and Nexus, aka the five breweries that joined forces to make this awesome elixir.

Two days in and still awesome.

Two days in and still awesome.

What: 505-Five Release. Where: Chama River, Il Vicino, La Cumbre, Marble, Nexus. When: All day. Cost: No cover charge. Details: See the introductory paragraph. Why you should go: Some of ABQ’s best brewers got together and joined forces to make a great beer. Why wouldn’t you go try what they have created? The Crew will be following my (Stoutmeister’s) lead at Il Vicino tonight. If you see us, stop by to say hello.

What: Beer Flights & Beer Brats. Where: Sandia Chile Grill on the northeast corner of San Antonio and Wyoming. When: All day. Cost: No cover charge. Details: For every sample tray of beer you purchase, you get a free beer brat. Why you should go: Besides celebrating the great German heritage of beer and brats, this is a great opportunity to try one of the hidden brewery gems here in ABQ. Stoutmeister, Derek, and the Professor Emeritus of Beer will try to be there around lunchtime.

What: Special Beer Tasting. Where: Imbibe Cigar Bar in Nob Hill. When: 4 to 7 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: San Diego’s Green Flash and Durango’s Ska will be providing the beers. We do not know exactly what they are bringing down, but frankly, we have yet to try a bad beer from either brewery. Why you should go: Did we mention it’s free to get in? If you have never had Ska or Green Flash, now is the time to indulge in these great breweries.

What: Total Wine & More Event. Where: Total Wine in Cottonwood Corners on the West Side. When: 4 to 7 p.m. Cost: Unknown. Details: Very few details have been provided to us besides the fact Total Wine is hosting a tasting event featuring beers from California’s awesome Anderson Valley Brewing Co. Why you should go: It’s Anderson Valley, they rock. Plus, it’s one of the only  events on the West Side for those of you who do not like crossing the Rio Grande.

What: Special Beer Tasting. Where: Two Fools in Nob Hill. When: 5 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: Chicago’s Goose Island will bring its Bourbon County Coffee Stout to tap. Why you should go: This is one of only two times we will ever have this beer in New Mexico. It’s Goose Island, it shall be epic. Derek and I will try to stop by to sample this one.

What: Tower of Sour. Where: Back Alley Draft House, on the northwest corner of Central and 2nd Street, behind New York Pizza Dept. When: 5 to 8 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: A total of four Belgian sours, actually from Belgium instead of brewed locally, will be available for you to sample in 10-ounce glasses or in flights of all four. Petrus Aged Red, Petrus Aged Pale, Petrus Oud Bruin, and Monk’s Cafe will transport you to Brussels itself, without the lousy trans-Atlantic plane fight. Why you should go: If you love Belgian beers, this is for you. Throw in the fact you can order food from NYPD, and you have yourself a great starter even for the rest of the night. Brandon will be present to represent the Crew.

That’s it for Day 2 of ABQ Beer Week. Remember, both the Lips of Faith Pairings, featuring New Belgium beers and tapas dishes, at both Geckos locations, and the Hot Sunner Nights at Desert Fish will continue all throughout Beer Week.

And remember, after all the day’s special events are over, head over to your local breweries. Support local first and foremost!
