Earlier today (Friday), we teased the upcoming Victory at Sea Day, a collaborative effort between the Brew Crew and Ballast Point to bring you some awesome variants of this massively wonderful beer. Well, as you can see from the above poster, there will be some epic versions on tap Saturday, Jan. 30, starting at 4 p.m. at Nob Hill Bar & Grill.
For those who have never indulged, Victory at Sea (10% ABV, 60 IBU) is an imperial robust porter with vanilla and coffee beans from San Diego’s Caffe Calabria. In addition to the wonderful original version, Ballast Point has made several variants, all of which will be available to us in New Mexico for the first time.
The Elijah Craig Barrel-Aged VaS is the highlight for us, but we will admit to being quite intrigued by how the flavor changes with the peppermint, peanut butter, and toasted coconut. All of the VaS variants will be poured in 10-ounce glasses at $6 apiece, while the barrel-aged will be $7. NHBG might also do smaller pours, but that is TBD.
In addition to all of that porter, there will be the NM debut of the Blackberry Sour Wench (7% ABV, 10 IBU). It has a base similar to a Berliner Weisse, with the Marion Blackberries from Oregon added to the mix.
If you have a friend who likes neither imperial porters nor sours, fear not, Sculpin IPA and Grapefruit Sculpin are always on tap at NHBG.
So come join us on that lonely Saturday, the one in between the AFC/NFC Conference championship games and the Super Bowl. We are doing this as our after-party for grown-ups after we celebrate the first birthday of Brew Crew baby Bannon, Brandon’s son. Hey, for us adults, a toasted coconut Victory at Sea is basically our version of cake. Or at least that’s our story and we’re sticking to it!
