This Saturday, the Sandia Saloon pub inside the Whole Foods on Academy will open. I recently visited the Pinon Pub at the Whole Foods in Santa Fe to get an idea of what to expect. I have to say, it was pretty great to be able to walk around and grab whatever we felt like snacking on, and then taking it into the bar area to eat and grab a pint. Full confession — after stopping by for a pint on Saturday afternoon, we were so impressed that we came back for an early lunch the next morning.

That's a whole lot of taps.

That’s a whole lot of taps.

There are 24 taps with some pretty diverse choices of local craft brews and a few interesting out-of-state choices as well. Wine and select cocktails made with local spirits are also available. Most pints were $5; some were $6, and La Cumbre’s A Slice of Hefen was on sale for $4. Glasses of wine were very reasonably priced. You can order from a small list of food items at the bar, too, such as wings and sliders. There are also oyster platters, charcuterie plates, and cheese plates to choose from, in addition to a beer and cheese pairing flight.

You can eat at the bar, too.

The very knowledgeable and super friendly staff in Santa Fe said that there will be the same number of taps in Albuquerque and a similar selection, but the layout will be slightly different. I am sure I will not be waiting long after they open to discover firsthand how it looks. Enjoy the photos from the Santa Fe location!

The beer menus were impressive.
