Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Socorro, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.

Remember when all those giant, cartoon bombs went up around town last year? It turns out it was a charitable effort by a group called boomtimeABQ, and they are back with another round for this holiday season. They are having a fundraiser at Tractor Wells Park that also benefits the NM Brewers Guild this Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. Basically, if you go to Wells Park, use the hashtag #MakeEmBoom via any social media outlet (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), and you get $1 off a beer. In turn, the boomtimeABQ folks will donate $1 to the Guild and Dream Time LLC, up to $5,000 for the holiday season. Help the Guild, help a charity, enjoy a beer, and listen to Still Closed for Repairs play some music. Other breweries participating, meaning you can get $1 off there, too, include Abbey Brewing (Monks’ Corner), Dialogue, Marble, Nexus, Quarter Celtic, Red Door, Santa Fe, and Sidetrack. Hashtag away at multiple breweries throughout the month of December, people. Happy holidays to us all!

On the new beer front this week, there are a few new options to check out. Boese Brothers will debut Santa’s Little Helper, a raspberry vanilla porter, on Saturday. Bosque has fresh batches of Dry Acequia, Dry Stout, and Double Brown. Canteen rolls out Blood Orange Apricot IPA and Smoked Oat Porter. Flix Brewhouse’s first seasonal, The Brown Basilisk, debuts today (Wednesday). La Cumbre is feeling sour with Blackberry Briar. Comet Pale Ale flies into Marble. The rum-barrel-aged Cockness Monster surfaces again at Palmer on Sunday. Red Door goes to the dogs with Ottobrau Pilsner on Friday. Rio Bravo has a barrel-aged Belgian Strong Golden, plus a new Oatmeal Stout. Pullman Porter pulls into Sidetrack. Starr Brothers spots Therecastle, an English brown.

Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn rises to High Altitude Pale Ale on Friday. Second Street brings in Red Comet and Scotch Ale.

Albuquerque metro area breweries

Beers: High Plains Drafter Blonde, Duke’s Pale Ale, Off the Richter Imperial Red, Dunkelweizen, Tom’s Green Chile Amber Ale, English Oatmeal Stout (nitro only). ABC has updated their permanent lineup with the blonde, pale ale, imperial red, and dunkel, though the pale and red are temporarily out. The special amber is on tap for a limited time. They will also have a nitro tap upon which they always hope to have a darker beer.

Happy Hour/Discounts: Bosque has a happy hour running from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and all day on Sunday. Look for special menu items and get $1 off your favorite pints.

Beers: La Flama Blanca, Oso Loco, The Saaz Man Cometh, The Red Glove, Chocolate Milk Stout, Bear Knuckle IPA, Barrel-Aged Chocolate Milk Stout, Baltic Bear Porter (bombers only). The Oso Loco (4.8% ABV, 25 IBU) is a coffee-infused red ale, made with a blend from Prismatic Coffee, and is also available on nitro. La Flama (7% ABV, 80 IBU) is a white IPA. Fresh batches of Boxing Bear’s gold-medal-winning beers from GABF, The Red Glove and Chocolate Milk Stout, are now on tap, along with Bear Knuckle IPA, the 2016 NM IPA Challenge winner, on tap and for sale in bombers.

Beers: MWA (Malt With Attitude), Guero (Belgian Wit), Pale Ale, Stout, Cockness Monster (Scotch Ale). Palmer shares a building with Left Turn Distilling on Girard south of Candelaria. Their beers were a big hit at the recent grand opening, but sadly, you all drank up the rum-barrel-aged version of Cockness Monster. But, good news, that version will be back on tap this Sunday during the Left Turn Bloody Mary Bar, which runs all day.

Beers: Discordia IPA, U Down w/ BVP?, 40 to 5, Burque Lite, Sleepy Hollow, Trinity, Cardinal Sin Red, AdHd. Sleepy Hollow is a funky farmhouse cousin to Pumpkin Pi, which has run out for now. Trinity is a golden sour aged with local organic white peaches and apricots. The AdHd is a sour dry hopped with Amarillo.

Ponderosa Brewing Co. — (505) 639-5941

Beers: Belgian Pale Ale, Imperial Black IPA, Chocolate Pumpkin Porter, Schwarzbier, Mosaic Single Hop Pale Ale. The Schwarzbier and Mosaic are the newest additions. You can also still bombers of Sour Saison, Big Belgian IPA, and Preacher’s Daughter (Belgian Golden Strong) at the taproom or at liquor stores around town.

Beers: Clark IPA, Mile Hi Blood Orange IPL, Kill or be KILT. Clark is a hazy, New England-style IPA, and boy is it delicious. Kill or be KILT (9% ABV) is a big Scotch ale that debuted recently. It is just the kind of beer to get you through the holidays.

Beers: Oat DIPA, Lobo Rojo Red Ale, Scotch Ale. The Scotch Ale and Lobo Rojo have joined the tap list recently. The Oktoberfest finally ran out, thus giving up its tap handle to High Altitude Pale Ale, which should be ready Friday.

Beers: Cascada Lager, El Jefe, India Pale Lager, Wheat Porter, Stout, Dunkelweizen, Imperial Pilz. The latter two beers are the newest additions to the revamped lineup. Also, check the website for new menu items.

Beers: Bad Amber, Fiction (IPA), Fantin (Double Pale Ale), Grunewald (Imperial Porter), Monomyth (Belgian DIPA), Duchamp (Farmhouse Witbier), Whistler (Belgian Blonde), Cezanne Magnifique, Cezanne Denouement. One of the most recent additions here is the aptly named Monomyth, which checks in at 9-percent ABV and 90 IBUs. In addition to those beers, you can also get sample pours of Goya ’14, Rye Goya ’14, and Tableux ’16, or a Cezanne flight featuring Origine ’15, Magnifique ’16, and Denouement ’15 and ’16.

The next entry in the Ever Changing Series, Sangre De Frambuesa, is a throwback to one of SFBC’s first medal-winning beers at the Great American Beer Festival back in 1991. Adobe Igloo is back on tap and in six packs.

Happy Hour/Discounts: $1 off growler refills in the tasting room on Mondays. $2 pint Tuesdays at the Eldorado Taphouse. On Wednesday, there is a $2 pint special in the tasting room. On Thursday, there will be $1 off growler refills at the Eldorado Taphouse.

The popular Cherry Wheat is more tart than sweet, and it will soon be bottled. This is a second, improved batch of the Whiskey Stout that debuted earlier this year.
