Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.
Easter is this Sunday, which is one of those holidays that always sneaks up on us, because it’s always on a different. It’s also a holiday that is aimed more at children, with the egg hunts and the chocolate bunnies and so on. But, this is New Mexico, so of course some folks have figured out how to make Easter into an adult holiday. This Saturday, the two breweries and three taprooms downtown are all participating in an adult Easter egg hunt. Boese Brothers, Sidetrack, Monk’s Corner, Duel, and Red Door will be hiding different colored eggs (one color for each location) all around downtown. Anyone finding an egg will discover prizes inside, many of which can be redeemed at the participating locations. A maximum of three eggs can be redeemed at any location. Do not start before noon, or else you will be deemed lame and in violation of the rules. Head on downtown, have some fun, and then go to Tart at Heart at Sister at 2 p.m., or 1 p.m. for VIP, if you got a ticket before they sold out of those. We will have more on Tart at Heart this week, including the final beer list.
Before we get to new beers, a programming note. You may notice a lack of new beers and other info listed below. It’s not that they’re not out there, but a huge chunk of the key brewery employees (the ones that provide us info) are currently attending the annual Craft Brewers Conference in Washington D.C.
On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Bosque is feeling summery with Witbier. VMO #2 sneaked back on tap at La Cumbre. Marble has a tap and bottle release of Double IPA today (Wednesday). Ponderosa’s Berliner Weisse is on tap at last, plus Ella Single Hop Pale Ale is available. Speaking of returnees, Clark IPA is back at Quarter Celtic, and Single Action Kolsch returns Friday. Steel Bender rolls out Smith Hopper Centennial Extra Pale Ale. Tractor has fresh batches of Berliner Weisse and Berry Cider.
Up in Santa Fe, it is all quiet this week.

Beers: Coconut McSmack, Good Ol’ Brown IPA, Oaked Depravity, Marzen, Consensual Sensations DIPA, Snakedriver (on nitro). Depravity (10% ABV) is a beast of a barleywine, and the oaked version is the last one on tap. The Snakedriver is an Irish dry stout, in case you couldn’t guess. Consensual Sensations (8.2% ABV, 125-plus IBU) is a beast of a DIPA, brewed up for TMBC’s 18th anniversary.

Western Bloc IPA is back, now part of a series of seasonal-themed IPAs called the In-and-Out Series. Freestyle Pilsner is back on tap and in six-packs.
