Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.

We have said before many times that one of our favorite occurrences with local breweries is when two or more get together to collaborate on a new and unique beer. As we all anticipate the annual upcoming 505 Collaboration Beer release during ABQ Beer Week (yes, we know where it is being brewed and when, but we cannot share the info), over at Marble’s Northeast Heights Taproom, brewmaster Josh Trujillo has been hard at work collaborating with a number of fellow brewers around the city. This week, he and La Cumbre director of brewing operations Daniel Jaramillo will unveil Hans Cholo (4.9% ABV, 21 IBU) at LC and Marble Westside (to start). As the LC website put it best: “A clean German inspired Schwartzbeir that is rich with flavors of molasses, chocolate and toffee with a Burqueno attitude. Salud!” Sure makes us curious as to what this one tastes like, so I guess we will have to head over to the nearest location to us and find out. Let us hope this is just one of many collaborations coming out soon.

Speaking of collaboration beers, the members of the Pink Boots Society’s New Mexico chapter had brewed up a new fundraiser beer called Melissa. It is a dry-hopped Belgian honey ale and it is now available (or soon will be) at Bosque, Rowley Farmhouse Ales, Santa Fe, Sidetrack, Steel Bender, and Tractor.

On the new beer front this week, there are a few additional new options to check out. Bosque is feeling funky with Mixtape Saison. Bow & Arrow will debut their Sun-Bleached Berliner Weisse on Friday. Chama River resurrects old favorite Vermilion, plus Crema Anejo is now available. Dialogue brings back Golden Ale and Sour Rapsberry, while introducing the ODB Sour Brown Ale. Marble has fresh batches of Imperial Red, White Out, and Pineapple Gose. Red Door salutes its favorite open mic host with Draft Session IPA. Sidetrack is feeling mighty with Strong Arm Pale Ale, plus Pub Ale is back. Tractor has the new Cascara Cider.

Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn has a Cali Common on tap, plus Triple IPA returns later this week. Chili Line rolls out a new Porter, Vienna Lager, and Pineapple IPA, plus La Bamba and Stada Baba keep the smoke rolling. Rowley Farmhouse Ales has reached Agent Scully – Season One, Episode Two, a new experimental IPA, plus Kentucky Fried Common. Second Street has a whole new lineup, with St. George IPA, Ekuanot Pale Ale, Golden Ale, Red Comet, Rod’s Best Bitter, and Rod’s Steam Bitter all on tap.

Albuquerque metro area breweries

Beers: Pine Juice IPA, Golden, Brune, Wheat Wine, Strong Dark and Handsome, Lone Wolf. The Strong Dark and Handsome (8.7% ABV, 23 IBU), a Belgian dark strong, is back on tap. Lone Wolf (3.5% ABV, 13 IBU) is a new Belgian ale that, as that ABV might imply, is quite sessionable.

You can still buy bombers of Chocolate Milk Stout and The Red Glove, which both took home gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival back in October, and now Black and Blue Sour, available in bombers for the first time. Look for a new seasonal later this week.

Beers: Otero ESB, Lone Pine Pilsner, Sancho Saison, Double Black IPA, Pepe the Mule. OK, fine, Pepe the Mule counts as a beer, even though it is basically a Moscow Mule, but it was made with beer. Double Black IPA is the first hop-forward beer from Broken Trail.

Beers: Coconut McSmack, Good Ol’ Brown IPA, Oaked Depravity, Marzen, Consensual Sensations DIPA, Snakedriver (on nitro). Depravity (10% ABV) is a beast of a barleywine, and the oaked version is the last one on tap. The Snakedriver is an Irish dry stout, in case you couldn’t guess. Consensual Sensations (8.2% ABV, 125-plus IBU) is a beast of a DIPA, brewed up for TMBC’s 18th anniversary.

The Agent Scully is a new series of IPAs which will vary by hop combinations. Colonel Citra is another IPA made with, well, you can probably guess.
