Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s seven breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.
If just walking outside was not enough of an indication, patio season has come to an end in most of New Mexico, with the day-and-night outdoors events wrapping up for 2019 at Marble’s downtown location this weekend. Officially, the dynamic duo of The Rudy Boy Experiment and the Gershom Brothers will close it out with their performances Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. The big event, however, is Saturday’s Muertos Fiesta from 2 to 9. The brewery, and some of its finest musician friends, will honor the dead through art, music, food, and drink. There will be vendors, food trucks, special respected altars at which to pay tribute, and a full music lineup that includes Jade Masque (2 to 3:30), Sol De La Noche (4 to 6), Yeztli Tanzt Y Arte (6:15 to 6:30), and Red Light Cameras (7 to 9). There will be face painting and a costume contest, plus a special tapping of Cerveza Calavera. The best part, as always, is that it is free to attend.
The recent New Mexico Brewers Guild collaboration beer, Land of Enchantment Lager, is now appearing at member breweries around the state. Canteen and Nexus already have it on tap, and numerous other breweries will follow, including Steel Bender on Thursday. Come enjoy this collaborative effort of more than 20 participating breweries and show your support for the Guild! Oh, and speaking of collaboration beers, The Winchester, the beer that the Crew made with Quarter Celtic, is now on tap at the Juan Tabo Taproom, and will soon be available at the main brewpub. Just be forewarned, we are gonna drink a lot of it, so the supply is limited!
On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Bow & Arrow is all good with Burque Bock on Thursday. Canteen goes a Wee Bit Loco once again. Cantero has a fresh batch of American Gold Ale. Ex Novo parties with Antwerp Disco Tripel, plus it will start releasing cans of Mountains and Mountains Imperial Stout today (Wednesday) through Friday. La Cumbre harkens back to an olden time with Gilded Age Porter. Marble shines bright with Golden Strong. Steel Bender has Stay Golden Ale and Kettle Run – A Solo Hop Sour back on tap for a limited time, plus For Your SaniTea debuts Thursday, and Explored Hypotheticals a.k.a. Tracksuit Stout, a collabortion with our friend Majin Garcia, will debut in limited quantitites on tap and in cans this Saturday. Tractor brings back three favorites in Javi Lager, Eyes Wide Shut IPA, and Thai Basil Mint Cider.
Up in Santa Fe, Rowley Farmhouse Ales goes big with Colonel Cashmere DIPA, plus Chantal returns. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row rolls out Full Nelson Pale Ale, American Amber, and Irish Cream Ale. Down in Silver City, Little Toad Creek pours itself a holiday treat with Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout.
