Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s seven breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.
Red Door Brewing’s push into Eastern New Mexico continues with the opening of its Roswell taproom this Friday. It all kicks off at 5 p.m. at 301 N. Railroad Ave. For those unfamiliar with Roswell geography, all you have to do is go from Main Street/Highway 285 and go east on 3rd Street, one block past the railroad tracks. There will be food and plenty of beer, per head brewer Matt Meier. In addition to the regular Red Door lineup, Matt is sending the just-tapped Pining for Maple Breakfast Brown, RU Cereal?, Blackberry Hefe, Another Matt (California Common), Illusions of Flannel IPL, Raining Blood (Imperial Red), and Ginga Ninja. None of the Crew can make it out, so if any of you reading this happen to stop by, take some pictures and let us know how the new joint looks. That part of New Mexico still needs more craft beer, and hopefully this taproom is just the start of a new boom.
On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Bosque goes the single-hop route with Palisade Pilsner. Brew Lab 101 will tap Holiday Cranberry Cider on Friday. Canteen goes big with Schwebock Doppelbock on Thursday. Cantero has a limited amount of Doughnut Stout available, plus El Rojo Red Ale is available. Ex Novo and Flix Brewhouse have their collaboration pilsners, Enzo (Italian style) and Shelby (American style), on tap. Marble unveils the 2019 edition of Reserve Ale on tap and in cans at all three locations today (Wednesday), plus Alpha Acid Trip is back for another run. Ponderosa finally had a tap open up for Hop-Mosa to make its triumphant return. Steel Bender will have cans of unfiltered Cider for sale Thursday and bottles of Make Mine Perfect on Friday. Thirsty Eye will debut its new Pale Ale any day now.
Up in Santa Fe, Second Street has tapped Centennial Pale and Railyard Red, plus Jack Plane Porter is back on tap and in cans. Tumbleroot just put Imperial Stout on the nitro tap. Further north, Red River brings back its tasty Prospect Porter for the season.
