The Week Ahead in Beer: Everything is back to normal at last

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s seven breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

Oh, thank the universe, the holidays are over. No more weird opening and closing times. No more ugly sweaters (unless that’s your thing, in which case, keep on keeping on). Yeah, it’s just back to beer and the types of events we are all used to at the breweries, music and trivia and charitable functions. Speaking of charity, Boxing Bear is hosting an adoption event for Watermelon Mountain Ranch on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the main brewery off Alameda. If you did not get that special gift at Christmas/Hanukkah, now could be your chance to add a new best friend to your home. Earlier that same day, Black Snout is hosting a Paws and Stripes Social at 10:30 a.m. to help that charity that matches up military veterans with service dogs. Buy a new pint of the Krampus Weizenbock and $1 will go to the charity.

On a more light-hearted note, there is also the Resolution Buster Party at Red Door on Candeleria this Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Buy one beer and get the second one for just 5 cents. If you bought a new gym membership for 2020, you can get half off a mug club membership.

On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Black Snout also recently released Predator, a Vienna-style SMASH. Bombs Away brought back Stockpile Stout for the winter. Bosque is thinking of another season with Endless Summer, a golden ale. Boxing Bear brings back an old favorite in Iron Lung Smoked Porter. Brew Lab 101 introduces X-IPA, the first in a series of experimental hop-forward ales. Differential boasts it has a new Chocolate Orange Braggot. Ex Novo is prescribing a pint of ALTernative Medicine. La Cumbre is releasing Formulation, a double-dry-hopped double hazy IPA, on tap and in cans on Friday, and there are also three new German-style beers on draft in Einbeck Two Step Doppelbock, Munchner Dunkel, and Schwarzbier. Marble ascends to new heights with Ski Break Hazy IPA, plus there is a limited quantity of Oude Dubbel available, a blend of two-year-aged Dubbel in wine barrels mixed with the current batch of Dubbel. Quarter Celtic resurrects two old favorites in Irish Handcuffs and Dark Pedro. Sidetrack is going Full Steam Ahead, plus it also has Southside Pale Ale and Smoke on the Lager on tap. Toltec is feeling frisky with its new Munich Dunkel, Project DUNK (come on, La Cumbre, that’s pretty funny, right?).

Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn serves up dessert in liquid form with Key Lime Occupy. Second Street recently tapped Festivus Ale, Anniversary Ale, and Imperial Stout. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row has a fresh batch of Stouty McStoutface. Further north, Red River unveils Contagion Apricot Sour.

    Good to hear about Honeymoon! I did go to the Whole Foods on Wyoming and Academy asking about Honeymoon bottles, they have no idea what I was talking about. I don’t think they have hit the shelves quite yet.
