Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s seven breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.
As we mentioned back in our Look Back/Look Ahead Series article on High and Dry Brewing, one of the big things the staff was looking forward to in 2020 was their second anniversary party. This Saturday is the big day, with live music, a new beer, and more. It all kicks off at noon and runs until 11 p.m. Harmless Doppelgangers, a new hazy double IPA, will make its debut. The first 20 people to order the beer will get a free commemorative pint glass. There will also be special T-shirts for sale. Brewer/owner Andrew Kalemba also puts his culinary skills to the test with some special brisket that he made along with the folks at Artisan Valley Smokehouse. The brisket is free, too! There will also be live music from High Performance Orange (12:30 p.m.), The Ordinary Things (2 p.m.), Gral Brothers (4 p.m.), and Red Mesa (6 p.m.). Head on down and have a little fun this weekend! Just, uh, beware the Shining twins in the brewery.
On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Bosque climbs up to Blueberry Hill, a new fruited wheat. Boxing Bear added American Pale Ale and its past award winner, The Red Glove. Canteen brings back Tuttle IPA for another run. Cantero goes big with Baltic Porter. Ex Novo rolls out a new beer in Puff Puff Passion, plus Easy Come Easy Go, a Bohemian pilsner, is back on tap. La Cumbre brings back one of its favorites this Friday in Altimeter IPA, on tap and in cans. La Reforma rotates IPAs with West Coast, Papi Chulo! replacing West Coast, Ese!. Marble brings back an old favorite in Amber Ale, while also adding Turkish Coffee Stout. Nexus put G-Bird Grapefruit IPA back on tap. Quarter Celtic gets a little Belgian with Fiona La Blond. Steel Bender sticks with the German theme with the return of Die Dunkel Seite.
Up in Santa Fe, Second Street has brought back an old favorite in Red Comet. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row brewed up a fresh batch of Munich SMASH. We would also be remiss if we did not point out that Truth or Consequences Brewing will be hosting a winter beer tasting on Saturday at 6 p.m., with chief brewing officer John Masterson taking guests through a wide array of dark, malty ales, including barrel-aged Truth Serum Barleywine, Dark Skies Oatmeal Stout, and Honey Winter Ale.
Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of February 3.
