The Week Ahead in Beer: More breweries reopen and make other positive changes

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.
Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

Man, a lot happened since last week. Which seems like what we wrote last week, too. Two breweries that were closed are reopening. Thirsty Eye, which closed at the start of the pandemic, did a trial run with its mug club members last weekend. It worked well, so now the brewery will reopen Thursday through Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. We will have more on Thirsty Eye on Thursday. Up north, Bathtub Row will reopen after a comparatively short closing. With glass bombers of beer available now, and crowler cans on the way (UPDATE: The cans have arrived early and will be available as well starting Friday!), the Los Alamos pub decided to get back into action starting Friday. The hours of operation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Tractor has reopened all of its taprooms for to-go sales, following the same schedule and format as it has been using at Wells Park. Over at Steel Bender, the kitchen is up and running again. It is not the full menu, but heck, we will take a burger, fries, and some wings to go with a resupply of Hummingbird Pils. Finally, High and Dry has installed a crowler machine, which will make it even easier to take its beer home. Is there anything we missed? Drop us a line and we will update this story.

On the new beer front this week, there are only few new options to check out as most breweries are focusing on their core styles. Ale Republic has churned out quite a few new ones and returning favorites with Cream Ale, Brune, Bug Juice, Mango All Day IPA, Diablo de Oro, and Fade to Black Stout. Bombs Away recently dropped Hazy Chain DIPA Version 10 for crowler/growler fills. Boxing Bear is putting Citra Lager in 16-ounce four-pack cans on Friday. (UPDATE) Canteen is bringing back Cabana Lager in 12-ounce six-pack cans on Thursday. Ex Novo already put Bock Holliday (Maibock) in cans, while Elbow Bump Hazy IPA gets canned Friday. Marble tapped Saison for crowler/growler fills. Red Door brings back Mic Czech for growler fills at the Candelaria location. Sidetrack just tapped Icelandic IPA and Coastline IPA for crowler/growler fills.

Up in Santa Fe, Rowley Farmhouse Ales is putting Meier (Lemon Gose) in cans today (Wednesday). Second Street is releasing four-pack cans of 2019 Skookum Barleywine, while Jordy’s Irish Red, House IPA, and Salvation Stout are available for growler fills. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing recently added Tropical Blonde and Apple Blossom Ale for crowler/growler fills.

Breweries, if there is anything not in here that you would like the public to know about, get in touch with us ASAP. We can continuously update this post as needed.

Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of April 27.
