Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

We just went over some positive new developments in our most recent Beer Notes, including two more places opening up, and others expanding their days/hours of operation. While all of that is going on, for this weekly roundup, we are staying focused on the many individual beers still rolling out of the different breweries. This week, three breweries are putting three fairly different beers in cans. Boxing Bear, which has been on such a roll with specialty cans that we did a Zoom review with head brewer/co-owner Justin Hamilton (coming soon to our YouTube channel!), is at it again with Pandemonium Pale Ale, a classic American-style pale that will hit shelves at all three taprooms Friday. La Cumbre is also going hop-forward, albeit with way more hops, all poured into Surreality Hazy DIPA. That will also arrive on Friday at both taprooms. (UPDATE: Surreality was wiped out by the beer geeks, yes, the entire supply in one day.) And now for something completely different, Ex Novo wants to be your huckleberry again, unleashing a new milk stout Thursday called Forgive Me If I Don’t Shake Hands. Anytime a brewery can get two Tombstone references under its belt in less than a month, that brewery is winning.
On the new beer front this week, there are a few other new options to check out. Brew Lab 101 has moved on to X-IPA 2.0 for crowler/growler fills, plus some Citracide Dry Hopped Cider is due up soon. Casa Vieja is keeping March alive with Irish Sunrise Stout in growler fills. Ex Novo will also have Eliot IPA back on cans on Friday. Marble recently got all experimental with IPA-X for growler/crowler fills. Nexus has the 2020 edition of Beam Me Up Scotty on its way soon for growler fills. Palmer tapped Conspiracy Colsch for crowler fills. Ponderosa rolls out three new seasonals for growler fills in Session IPA, Euro Hazy IPA, and Italian Pilsner. Starr Brothers lightens up with Starrlite Kolsch for crowler/growler fills. Toltec is feeling heavenly with a fresh batch of Goddess Warrior for crowler/growler fills. Tractor offers up a rare summer edition of Turkey Drool, plus Altbier, for growler fills. (UPDATED) Turtle Mountain tapped two new brews late in the week for crowler/growler fills in The Mini Session IPA and The Sir Stanley Matthews British Gold.
Up in Santa Fe, it’s a bit quiet this week, but over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row brings back Mexi Lager in 22-ounce bottles.
Breweries, if there is anything not in here that you would like the public to know about, get in touch with us ASAP. We can continuously update this post as needed.
Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of May 11.
To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Instead of “Beers” being an all-encompassing list of seasonal/specialty offerings, we are now splitting everything into “Growler/Crowler Fills” for beers on draft, and “Can/Bottle” for pre-packaged beers. All beers listed are subject to change.
