Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

As they have throughout this entire pandemic, Ex Novo keeps making and canning new beers. But, since I guess everyone over there has to prove once in a while that they are not super human, there was a bit of an oops with their latest new canned offering. Oh, there is nothing wrong with the hazy IPA within the can, it’s something on the can itself. As writers, we can certainly feel the “d’oh” when the can labels arrived and Reverse Whirlpool was spelled “Whirpool.” Thankfully, the Ex Novo staff had a great sense of humor about the whole thing, and the early buzz on this beer is that it is one of the best to hit the market locally. You can get Reverse Whir(l)pool in cans and on draft this week, plus there is a second run of Brexit Through the Gift Shop cans and For Whom the Helles Tolls is back on draft.

Up in Santa Fe, Rowley Farmhouse Ales is releasing a beer for a cause today (Wednesday). The Fourth Estate is a Belgian quad that was fermented in a foeder. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Santa Fe Reporter and other independent media outlets. Kudos to RFA for supporting independent journalism.

On the new beer front this week, there some other fresh options to check out. Boxing Bear takes off with Galactic Haze on draft. High and Dry rolls out a new fruited sour, Empty Conjecture. La Cumbre has churned out four new draft offerings with Belgian Abbey Single, Belgian Tripel, English Bitter, and Doppelbock. Marble added Gohan, a Japanese-style pilsner/light lager, on draft, and Tank Girl, a new sour, arrives on Friday. Quarter Celtic kicks up another perfect patio beer in Mandarin Kolsch. Sidetrack has more Pilsner for the People back on draft. Steel Bender will tap the aptly named Big E IPA on Thursday.

(UPDATE) A whole slew of additional beers were added to taps for the weekend. Ale Republic released an unfiltered IPA, River Rat. Bow & Arrow kept it light with Super Bueno Blonde Ale. Boxing Bear brings back two old favorites with Ameri-Kolsch and Hairy Mit Hefe. Marble now has Nitro Pub Ale back on tap at all three taprooms. Tractor goes big with Godzilla Hazy IPA.

Up in Santa Fe, Beer Creek will have its second batch of made-with-all-New Mexico-ingredients Bootlegger Blonde ready this Friday after the first batch kicked, while Picture Rock Porter returns as well. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row tapped a new Black Lager. Further north, Red River Brewing has a New Zealand IPA that will soon be ready for tapping. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing has Summer Wheat available for, well, you can guess.
