The Week Ahead in Beer: Tractor teams up with local musicians to support charity

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.
Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

Our breweries continue to make adjustments in the COVID-19 era as to how to support local charities, with Tractor being the latest to adapt and improvise for a special event this Saturday. The Second Annual Burque Niños Stream-athon is this weekend, benefiting Cuidando Los Niños, a charity dedicated to helping homeless children in Albuquerque. Tractor will be selling four-packs of beer and cider, plus spirits, with $5 from every purchase going directly to the charity. Then at 7 p.m., tune into the Launchpad’s Facebook page for live performances from local stalwarts like Red Light Cameras, The Riddims, Sun Dog, Gregory Mrvl Tafoya, Def-i, and The Ordinary Things. In one move you can support a local charity, a local brewery, a local venue, and local musicians. You can pick up your beer/cider/spirits at any Tractor taproom. Then kick back on your couch and watch the live stream. For more info, check Facebook or head to the event page on Tractor’s website.

In new brewery news, Sobremesa is open on the West Side, and we have added their entry below! Look for a full story with lots of photos later this week.

As per usual in this day and age, there are also a lot of new canned beer releases we wanted to highlight as we head towards the weekend. First up today (Wednesday), Marble brings back Pumpkin Noir in six-packs and on tap. Then on Thursday, Steel Bender is bringing back AleWitch Pumpkin Ale in cans and on draft. Friday will feature the arrival of La Cumbre’s wet-hop hazy IPA, Obscura, and Ex Novo’s aptly named Exnövofest. Boxing Bear will get into the märzen game Saturday with OktoBEARfest in cans for the first time, while Ex Novo drops a second canned release of the week, this one in much more limited quantities, with the West Coast-style DIPA, I’ll See Myself Out.

On the new beer front this week, there some other fresh options to check out on draft, as well. Bow & Arrow finds Tropical Fortune Hazy IPA on Friday. Dialogue is wide awake with The Restless Stranger Session IPA. Ex Novo is also tapping Intramural Polo League (IPL, get it?) and an as-yet-unnamed coffee milk stout by the weekend. High and Dry releases modified versions of two of their staples with a wet-hop Just Choose Pale Ale and a prickly pear-infused Hurry Sundown Wheat Ale. Kaktus brings back three favorites in Helles Lager, Amber Ale, and London Longhair Porter. La Cumbre has more of its delicious Miles from Cologne on draft, plus Homespun IPA has arrived. Lava Rock has seven recent additions to its taps in My Rock Maibock, Boca Negra Stout, Uno’s Bully Bitter, NM Tru IPA, Brown Trout Lager, Gila Gose, and Lava Juice Hazy IPA. Ponderosa will be holding a somewhat muted sixth anniversary party this weekend, with a cask of wet-hopped Ghost Train IPA on Friday, along with The Contender IPA and Oktoberfestbier on draft. Rio Bravo is commemorating what would normally be State Fair season with some unique food specials and Cotton Candy Sour on draft for a limited time. Sidetrack catches a ride on Kolsch Comet. Steel Bender has put their NMIPAC entry, Skull Fuzz IPA, on draft, and also now has can-conditioned Village Wit six-packs for sale. Tractor tapped its NMIPAC entry, Kingzilla Hazy IPA, as well. Turtle Mountain gets into the season with Okturtlefest Lager, plus a RauchTurtlefest could make its debut soon.

Up in Santa Fe, Beer Creek used all-New Mexico ingredients to create its Märzen Law. Rowley Farmhouse Ales has moved ahead with its IPA series to Agent Scully – Season 3, Episode 10. Second Street brings back three favorites in Bavarian Hefeweizen, Diablo Canyon Pale Ale, and Chin-Gose. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row has more Little Bird Blonde on tap, plus the new White Calf is available. Further north, Red River Brewing rolls out Wildfire Hazy IPA and Raspberry Fruity Sour Ale. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing recently tapped High Impact IPA.

(WEEKEND UPDATE) As per usual, several more beers made their ways to taps and package by this weekend. Bombs Away dropped BLU-82 Brut IPA. Bosque has Spacelion IPA on tap and in cans. La Cumbre released the 2020 version of Persica Quercus in bottles. Sidetrack unveils Blurred Lines Hazy IPA. Starr Brothers rolls out Bikini Bottom, a pineapple coconut wheat.
