Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.
There is not much in the way of big events this week, at least none that have been announced so far, so instead we’ll go back to what this weekly roundup is intended to do — focus on the new beers. Bow & Arrow has been on a roll lately with new releases, but mostly of the canned variety. This Friday, there is a new can, but also a new bottled sour for the first time in a while (hey, you can’t rush sours). Desert Revival Apricot will be available, marking the latest fruited change to this popular brew, as it was blackberry last time. We are in the last stage of summer, where it’s still hot out even though the kids are back in school, so we suppose that bright little apricots will work well. As for that new can, Lullabies, Legends and Lies Hazy IPA will also be on hand. Citra, El Dorado and Azacca top the hop bill. Oh, and the best part of these new beers? They will also be on draft in addition to in package form. Enjoy a little at the brewery, then take some home for later.
There are a couple other can releases happening around town this week. La Cumbre brings back an annual favorite, Full Nelson DIPA, that will pummel your palate in submission this Friday. Red Door will be releasing Mic Czech Pilsner in cans for the first time.
On the new draft beer front this week, there some fresh options to check out for pints or crowler/growler fills. Boxing Bear tapped P.O.G. Slammer, a fruited summer ale. High and Dry rolls out a new porter, Plane-Arium. La Reforma added Passion Punch, a tropical fruited wheat ale. Nexus brought back the popular Trampled by Tangerines American Wheat. Sidetrack has more MX Lager, a fresh batch of Further West Cold IPA, and decided to get Down with the Citrus. Steel Bender brings back Schnitz N Giggles Dortmunder Lager on Thursday.
Up in Santa Fe, it’s a quiet week for new releases. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row brought back Little Bird Blonde and Witrock, while bottles of Tripel Threat are available for a limited time. Further north, Red River resurrected Ed Iver Pale Ale, while also adding Pomegranate Sour and Bearly Strawberry Belgian Blonde.
(WEEKEND UPDATES) Bombs Away recently added Ten Seconds to Helles. La Cumbre tapped Czech Engine Lite 10 and Leichtweizen. Rio Bravo jumped on the list of breweries tapping their Oktoberfest in August.
Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of August 9.
To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Instead of “Beers” being an all-encompassing list of seasonal/specialty offerings, we are now splitting everything into “Draft/Crowler/Growler Fills” for beers poured from the taps, and “Cans/Bottles” for pre-packaged beers. All beers listed are subject to change.
