New Mexico breweries hope for another bountiful night at GABF awards ceremony

More medals like this one could soon be in the hands of New Mexico breweries.

The Great American Beer Festival was postponed again this year by the COVID pandemic, but just like last year, the medals competition and online awards ceremony are still being held.

Last month, we went over the initial batch of submitted beers by more than dozen New Mexico breweries. We have added a few more since then, so we send along a big thank you to Marble, Rio Bravo, Santa Fe, and Second Street for updating our list.

The ceremony will be broadcast online Friday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Anyone can follow along, and we already know that Rowley Farmhouse Ales will be holding a public watch party for Santa Fe. Our man Luke will be over at Second Street Rufina with the staff there watching in the back, and will have full coverage of any medals won and the reaction from the Santa Fe area breweries.

As for the Albuquerque-based Crew members, we could not find a brewery willing to host an official watch party (Friday nights are not necessarily ideal to carve out a portion of a taproom for a bunch of industry folks, so we understand), but we are planning to post up at Gravity Bound to watch off our laptop(s). Hey, we were going there anyway to watch the New Mexico United road game at 7, so it makes sense to just hang out in the same spot. If anyone in the brewing industry would like to join us, please, head on over and make our lives a little easier when it comes to tracking down the medal winners.

We will note that while the festival part of GABF was not held this year, the twice-delayed Craft Brewers Conference was held in Denver in its place, so many of the top brewers and brewery owners are currently in Colorado. Anyone we are unable to reach on Friday, we will catch up with them the following week.

Rather than re-list the submitted beers on a per-brewery basis, we are instead listing the categories in the order they will be announced on the online broadcast. This should help everyone follow along. We also noted the past medal winners that are back in the running this year. Note that this is not a complete list, so there could be even more beers entered. We will keep a running tally on Facebook and Twitter, so if you want to follow along but are unable to watch the broadcast, you can keep tabs that way.

Among the breweries that usually compete at GABF (and have won medals in the past) that we did not receive lists from were Boxing Bear, La Cumbre, Quarter Celtic, Rowley Farmhouse Ales, Sierra Blanca, Starr Brothers, Toltec, and Tumbleroot.

We send our best wishes to all the breweries that entered into the competition this year. Let’s bring even more gold, silver, and bronze back to New Mexico.

Keep supporting local!
