Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

This Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on New York City and Washington D.C. While it is hard to believe that it has been two decades since a panicked friend called me early in the morning to alert me as to what was going on (there was no social media back then, and I worked nights at a newspaper, so I wasn’t exactly a morning person). There will be plenty of somber reflection nationwide this weekend, and it also represents an opportunity to engage in some important fundraising efforts for the veterans who bore the brunt of the two wars that follow. JUNO is hosting Completing the Mission, a multi-band musical event to raise money for homeless veterans. A creation of Mariposa Music and Heroes Walk Among Us, the event kicks off at 2 p.m. and runs until 10. It will feature a number of notable local bands, including Keith Sanchez & The Moon Thieves, Tesuque Revolt, Burque Sol, and many others (for a full list, see the JUNO capsule below). It may not feel like a day to celebrate anything, but in this case, we will make an exception for a good cause. Speaking of good causes, Sobremesa has teamed up with Ales for ALS for a Friday fundraiser from 5:30 to 8 p.m. They brewed up Jordan Bateson Crushable Haze for the event, and 100 percent of the sales will go to funding for ALS research.

Back to the beer, there are a few notable can releases this week. Bow & Arrow is flying down the dunes with Surf the Mesa West Coast IPA on Friday. La Cumbre curses this lingering hot weather with the release of Project Dank Autumn Edition on Friday. Steel Bender brings back a crowd favorite with Blackberry Dynamite on Thursday (UPDATE) actually make that today (Wednesday).

On the new draft beer front this week, there some fresh options to check out for pints or crowler/growler fills. Canteen tapped a Citra SMASH. Differential added Blackberry Blonde Ale. Ex Novo drops Secondhand Store, a raspberry wheat. High and Dry unveils the fresh-hop edition of Ghost of a Moon Pale Ale, plus Stacy Alert, a strawberry milkshake sour. Marble created The Salty Edge to benefit the Albuquerque Mountain Rescue Council. Quarter Celtic rolled out a tasty Amber Lager, with an Italian Pilsner on deck. ReSource gets creative this Saturday with Project 11 – S&M Vanilla Nut Brown. Rio Bravo recently added #FreeBritney, a blonde ale (get it?). Starr Brothers tapped Angel’s Flight, a wheat ale. Steel Bender also brought back Esmerelda Italian Pilsner. Thirsty Eye will have its Oktoberfest on tap this Friday. Tractor has a Prickly Pear Cider available on Friday. Turtle Mountain gets into the season with Oktürtlefest.

Up in Santa Fe, it’s another quiet week. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row added Caldera Kolsch and 1867 India Porter. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing released a trio of new brews with Galactic Haze IPA, Absolute Zero Cold IPA, and Strawberry Wheat.
