
We gotta admit, some breweries are really, really good at coming up with clever beer names. It’s gotten to the point where we think, but have not confirmed, that there is a game of one-upmanship among all the places around Albuquerque. If that is truly the case, then Steel Bender just raised the bar with its new brew, Hefe Lifting. Seriously, how has no one locally used that one before? Your move Ex Novo, and Marble, and La Cumbre, and so on and so forth.
New Draft:
Bombs Away tapped Condition Red Lager. Brew Lab 101 added the first local non-alcoholic beer, Defused, which is based on their Blonde Bombshell recipe. Casa Vieja turned over its taps with the arrival of Loma Lager, Ye Old Case Winter Warmer, and I’ve Got Your Six Hazy IPA. Ex Novo completed its British lineup with Stiff Upper Lip ESB. High and Dry is running some Midnight Miles, a hoppy brown ale. La Cumbre tapped Bitter 20 Something, which all of us were at some point, long ago. Marble rolled out Pilsner Xxxtra on draft. Palmer has more Conspiracy Cölsch on tap. Rio Bravo added Bravo Blonde and Blackberry Cuvée, a barrel-aged sour. Rumor brought back Diablo Americano. Starr Brothers tapped more Starrphire Pilsner, and also added Hazy-aversary for their sixth anniversary. Steel Bender will tap the aforementioned Hefe Lifting on Thursday. Toltec recently tapped Paycheck Pils. (UPDATES) Marble tapped Doppelator on Friday afternoon. Sidetrack brought back Buzz Bomb around the same time.
Up in Santa Fe, Hidden Mountain has a fresh batch of Gatekeeper IPA. Rowley Farmhouse Ales tapped the new Fields of Cypress, plus a Fields of Rye that was aged in a foeder with cherries and currants. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row added 1867 India Porter and Zappa SMASH Lager.
New Package:
La Cumbre brought back Hoplaunch IPA in cans and on draft on Tuesday. Rowley Farmhouse Ales has bottles available of both the Fields of Cypress and foeder-aged Fields of Rye. Second Street has a limited amount of Low Winter Sun in cans. (UPDATES) La Cumbre will have cans and draft available of Siberian Silk this Friday. Also on Friday, Ex Novo will release cans and draft of Bonks per Hectoliter Hazy IPA, which might be the weirdest beer name of the year so far.

Thursday — The weekly Tractor of Terror movie is John Carpenter’s version of The Thing, which I only mention because it’s my answer to the question “what movie messed you up as a kid?” The screening starts at 7 p.m. at Wells Park.
Friday — Jimmy Deveney’s “Keep it Local Showcase” returns to Tractor Wells Park at 8 p.m.
Saturday — WinterBrew returns, this time outdoors at Santa Fe Brewing’s The Bridge music venue. It will run from 1 to 4 p.m. and we will have a full preview with beer lists from the 14 participating breweries later this week. You can get your tickets here.
