The Week Ahead in Beer: Events galore as summer kicks into high gear

Stoutmeister will have you covered for all things new in beer and brewery events every week.

You know it’s summer when it’s not only insanely hot outside, the beer events calendar is also beginning to overflow with events. Saturday alone is packed, with Kaktus’ Farm House Ale Event in Bernalillo, multiple breweries attending Heights Summerfest, a special music-and-collab-beer-release event at High and Dry, a musical tribute show at Thirsty Eye, and the Desert Darlings are back doing their thing at Tractor Wells Park. Throw in multiple beer releases, both draft and cans, and there are plenty of ways to beat that darn heat.

And, on a personal note, my recent vacation exposed me to that dreaded COVID. I will do my best to keep on top of things while isolating at home. Please don’t drink up all of that new Scottish ale at Steel Bender.

New Draft:

Downshift brought Bread & Water Pilsner and Stop & Smell the Berries IPA up to Outpost 1706 in Old Town. Ex Novo tapped an international blonde called Oh Behave. Gravity Bound rolled out Nothing but Neon (Blackberry Lemonade Gose) and Knee High (West Coast IPA). Harmon Lane will tap Honey-Do IPA thi sweek. High and Dry recently added Call Me Mr. Flinstone, a fruited wheat, and will tap Forest Cathedral Rye IPA on Saturday. Kaktus sent us an update and Blond Ale, Amber, ESB, and Maibock have all returned. La Cumbre tapped Restrained Opulence (Session IPL). Marble added LaterAide, a lemon-and-lime ale. Ponderosa tapped Juicy Pale Ale. ReSource has a Pride Flight, with four beers representing the four colors of the flag — Pink: Blood Orange Sour, Yellow: Pomegranate Sour, Green: Apricot Hefeweizen, Blue: Blueberry Helles. Sidetrack recently added MX Lime Lager. Steel Bender tapped Nigel, a Scottish ale. Thirsty Eye has a new hazy DIPA called Dude? Dude. Dude! Turtle Mountain tapped Koi No Yokan (Japanese Rice Lager) and Sierra Nueva Pale. (UPDATES) Marble also tapped Tea Time IPA. Sidetrack gets into the season with Summer Ale.

Up in Santa Fe, Rowley Farmhouse Ales tapped How Old is Old?, a Flanders oud bruin. Second Street has Cream Stout back on tap. Further north, Red River Brewing changed its Contagion Fruity Sour Ale from blueberry acai to raspberry lemonade. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing will tap Blood Moon Cherry Lager on Thursday. (UPDATE) RFA also tapped a new Munich-style Helles Lager.

New Package:

Bow & Arrow released more Galactic Road Trip (West Coast IPA) in cans. Boxing Bear brought back Chin Hook Mountain IPA in cans and on draft over the weekend. Rio Bravo recently added Stayin’ Alive (Blood Orange IPA) in cans. Steel Bender will roll out cans and draft of Cherry Dynamite on Thursday. (UPDATES) Bow & Arrow brought back two popular bottles, With Love From New Mexico (Golden Sour aged on Seyval Blanc Grapes) and Desert Revival (Apricot Sour). Ex Novo added MASH (Mosaic as Single Hop) WC IPA.

Notable Events:

Friday — Tractor Wells Park will again host its Goth Night & Dark Market at 8 p.m.

Thirsty Eye will host a tribute show for the late Johnny Cash, featuring multiple local musicians, starting at 8 p.m.
