The Week Ahead in Beer: New releases of some brewery classics abound

Stoutmeister will have you covered for all things new in beer and brewery events every week.

What is old is new again, or at least that seems to be the closest thing we have to a theme this week. La Cumbre has finally canned one of its original brews that has long been a staple on draft. Marble canned an old-school style as well. Throw in some returning monthly events at Tractor, plus the return of a pre-pandemic recurring event at Second Street Rufina, and this week is making us feel downright nostalgic. Fine, then I’ll go hit the road and catch up with my old friends in our college town this weekend. And, of course, I’ll check out some new breweries down there. More on that below. The rest of you, enjoy your New Mexico brews.

New Draft:

Boese Brothers busts out its Irish Red Ale in advance of the holiday. La Reforma tapped Ola Grande IPA. Late Shift dials it down with Late Shift Lite Lager. Marble added DIPA Especial over the weekend. Ponderosa tapped Raspberry Wheat Ale. Thirsty Eye wins best new beer name of the week with Shut the Front Dort, a Dortmunder lager, and will also have a new small batch of Odin’s Monocle infused with bourbon tea this Friday. (UPDATES) Brew Lab 101 added The Upside Down Pineapple Cider. Canteen tapped Cherry Wheat. La Cumbre brought back Miles from Cologne, and added the summer ale, Spring Runoff. Marble also tapped Chocolate Chapo.

Up in Santa Fe, Hidden Mountain tapped Naranja Sanguina, a blood orange wheat. Second Street added Variable Magnitude Cold IPA. Further north, Red River Brewing tapped Bayou Juice, a French saison, and Contagion Fruity Sour Ale with black currant.

New Package:

La Cumbre is putting its Pyramid Rock Amber Ale in cans for the first time this Friday. Marble has canned a small batch of its crushable Pale Ale. (UPDATE) Fitting with our theme, Bosque is bringing back Scale Tipper IPA in cans and on draft this Friday.

Notable Events:

Friday — Goth Night & Dark Market returns to Tractor Wells Park on Friday at 8 p.m., this time with a sinister St. Patrick’s Day theme.

Saturday — Drag Bingo and Comedy is back at Rumor Brewing from 3 to 6 p.m.

The Desert Darlings return as Hops & Dreams: Disney Villains and Princesses Edition takes over Tractor Wells Park at 8 p.m.

About Last Night: Cabaret Revamp makes a long-awaited return to Second Street Rufina at 8 p.m.

Quick News Bits:

High Desert Brewing is closed indefinitely after a fire destroyed the kitchen last Friday. They have set up a GoFundMe to help out their employees while they are closed. We will monitor their social media for updates on a (hopeful) reopening date.

Beer Creek is having a sale on four-packs of Bootlegger Blonde for $12 apiece at the brewery.

Bathtub Row is in the midst of a major renovation in the back, with the concrete floor being replaced so they can install their new 7-barrel brewhouse and other equipment. Their lineup will soon be mostly guest taps, so be patient, and soon the beer will flow again, better than ever!

PROGRAMMING NOTE

Someone gets to take a road trip to Arizona for baseball and an epic metal show (Fleshgod Apocalypse/Obscura/Wolfheart), and will be returning next Wednesday, so in all likelihood, Week Ahead will run a day late on Thursday.
