The Week Ahead in Beer: Rock the block (party) with Canteen and La Cumbre

Stoutmeister will have you covered for all things new in beer and brewery events every week.

The events are coming fast and furious now as summer season is fully underway at our local breweries. To that end, La Cumbre and Canteen are teaming up with their neighbors in the old Brewery District, which has now been renamed the Makers District. The two breweries have helped organize a neighborhood block party that will run this Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. There will be vendor pop-ups, food and drink specials, live music, and more spread about the area that runs roughly from Candelaria on the south to Comanche on the north, the I-25 frontage road to the west and the diversion channel to the east. New Mexico Clay, Heidi’s Raspberry Farm (that hidden, epic ice cream joint you have been meaning to try, or is that just us?), and Los Toasties are among the other participating businesses. Ride your bikes or grab a rideshare as parking will be limited. Slap on some sunscreen, stay hydrated, and take the opportunity to explore what’s becoming a more fun and vibrant community and not just an industrial park with a couple of (excellent) breweries. For more info, check the La Cumbre and Canteen social media pages.

New Draft:

Bombs Away brought back S.A.F. POG Juice, a fruited kettle sour. Ex Novo tapped Tesuque Lager. La Cumbre recently tapped Azulito Con Limon, Jet Pilot Pale Ale, and English Mild Ale. Nexus will tap a new batch of Beam Me Up (Higher) Scotty, their Scottish wee heavy, for Saturday’s 15th anniversary celebration. Painted Lady has a new one coming out Friday for Scary Movie Bingo (see below) with I Will Go Insane and I Will Take You With Me!, a blonde ale tribute to Catherine O’Hara’s character in the movie being shown.

Down south, Open Space tapped a new Belgian dark strong ale, Skeleton Ridge, named after a famous nearby hiking trail in the Gila Wilderness.
