Carlsbad brewery plans to move into familiar location in Clovis

Clovis will soon have a new brewing option in the old Bandolero space. (Crew archive photo)

A little while ago, we noted that while there has been zero moves by any Albuquerque area brewery in terms of adding a taproom, Open Space Brewing in Santa Clara was adding a taproom in nearby Silver City.

Well, this week, Carlsbad’s Guadalupe Mountain Brewing decided to join in on the fun, announcing that they will taking over the former Bandolero Brewery location in Clovis.

Another Carlsbad brewery, Nurvis Purvis, had teased that something was going into the Bandolero space, but we had no clue what that might be. Now, we all know.

The details beyond that are fairly scarce. For instance, we don’t know if Guadalupe Mountain bought out the old Bandolero owners, or are just leasing from them (or perhaps a third party). We do not know if Guadalupe Mountain will be brewing in Clovis, or just shipping up kegs of beer from Carlsbad.

We reached out to Guadalupe Mountain with some of those questions, but have not heard back. That’s fine, since for all we know, they have never heard of the Crew (only one of our members has even been there, and he did not do any sort of write-up on his experience, other than to tell the rest of us that he enjoyed the beer and pizza in Carlsbad).

As the temperatures drop (please keep this trend going), we can more safely plot out a future overnight trip to Carlsbad to check out Guadalupe Mountain, Nurvis Purvis (which has two beers, a hazy IPA and a kolsch, on tap at long last), and the new-to-us Milton’s Brewing space. Yeah, it’s been a while since we last went down to southeast New Mexico.

Anyway, if more details about what’s happening in Clovis fall into our laps, we will update this post or do an entirely new story. Until, let this be another hopeful sign that things are turning around ever so slightly for our state’s craft beer scene.

Keep supporting local!
