The Week Ahead in Beer: We swear it is fall and Marble has the beer to prove it

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Socorro, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.
Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

The weather is being weird. Again. One minute it is chilly and rainy (well, so I was told while I was in Denver), and then Tuesday it was all sunny and nice. Ah, autumn in Albuquerque, you never cease to perplex us all. It is truly fall, though, and you will know for sure because Pumpkin Noir makes its return to Marble Brewery today (Wednesday) at all three locations. As a bonus, if you cannot stay for a pint, you can buy a bomber again! Yes, Pumpkin Noir is back in bottle form, and it will be available for purchase at the taprooms. In addition, you can get sweet treats paired with your pour from My Sweet Basil. There will be live music downtown and in the Heights, too. Even if you do not need a jacket (or a hoodie), go ahead and enjoy a classic taste of fall. Or, take it home. Either way, you win.

Back in 2015 our most-read story was our preview of the Santa Fe Brewing ABQ Taproom before it opened at the Green Jeans Farmery. Well, much to our surprise, it has been 12 months since that story ran, which means it is time for the taproom’s first anniversary party. This coming Monday, head on over to Green Jeans for $3 pints, the release of Sour Kickin’ Chicken, and live music from Raven Rutherford & Her Sweet Potato Pie Band from 7 to 10 p.m. Mondays suck, but thanks to the folks at SFBC, it will suck a lot less.

On the new beer front this week, there are quite a few new options to check out. Bosque has tapped Moon Cannon DIPA, which just came in third at the Alpha King Challenge in Denver. Also back on tap is the PSA (Pumpkin Spice Ale). Dialogue puckers up at Sour Brown. Firkin is getting experimental with their hops, unleashing Hop Ness Monster IPA and Grapefruit Mafia IPA. La Cumbre is feeling a little lighter with Citrus Pale Ale. Rio Bravo is rolling out their first sour, Raspberry Sour, on Friday. Starr Brothers is feeling the fall as well with Jack Tooth Grin, a pumpkin spice ale. Tractor is unleashing the hop fury of Big Sipper IPA. Turtle Mountain also jumps on the fall theme with The Rise of Fall, an autumnal harvest squash ale, later this week.

Up in Santa Fe, Chili Line has rolled out an Imperial Pilz and a Dunkelweizen. Second Street has a fresh batch of Railrunner Pale Ale, plus this year’s version of Octoberfest available.

Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of October 10.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Under “Beers” are the new or seasonal beers on tap for this week.

(Mon–Tues 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Weds 10 a.m.–9 p.m., Thurs 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Fri 10 a.m.–9 p.m., Sat 11 a.m.–9 p.m.)

Beers: Cherry Wheat, Whiskey Stout, Oktoberfest, Interstella Vanilla. The folks in Moriarty asked us to be added, thus, here they are. The popular Cherry Wheat is more tart than sweet. This is a second, improved batch of the Whiskey stout that debuted earlier this year.

Events: Today (Wednesday)—Beer Dinner at the Black Angus, Albuquerque, $40 per person, call (505) 292-1911 for reservations, 6-8 p.m.

Twisted Chile Brewing — (575) 835-2949

(Mon–Thurs 11 a.m.–9 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–10 p.m., Sun noon-8 p.m.)

Beers: Zia Pilsner, 790 IPA, Hose Co. 1 Red Lager, Venom IPA, KC’s Irish Stout, McFadden’s Scotch, English Porter, Pilabo Pale Ale, Schwarzbar Black Lager, Oktoberfest. Got a chance to try the Oktoberfest while passing through Socorro recently. It is a solid example of the style, just sweet enough without going overboard.

Live Music: TBA

Weekly Events: Today (Wednesday)—Open mic, 6:30-9 p.m.
