Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.
The good folks at Bow & Arrow are celebrating Native American culture with their new Culture Crush Showcase, a series of events beginning today (Wednesday) and continuing through the weekend. First up, they are part of a Kick Off Beer Dinner at the Pueblo Harvest Cafe tonight at 6. Reservations are required (call 505-724-3510) and the cost is $65 per person. You get a five-course meal featuring indigenous-inspired cuisine from Chef Ruiz and beers from Bow & Arrow. You will also get the chance to tour the exhibits at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Then on Friday, Bow & Arrow will host a Pop-up Market from noon to 5 p.m. featuring Native American artists including Ginew, Etkie, Kathy Whitman, and Uncle Joe Designs. That will be followed by the non-profit event Hops & Healers at 6 p.m., and live music from ‘Merican Slang at 8 p.m. Then on Saturday, Good & Thorough Foods will join Bow & Arrow for a special beer brunch from noon to 3 p.m., followed by the Pueblo Food Stand from 4 p.m. until late. There will also be a Raising Pints for Water event at 6 p.m., with $1 from all pints going to the development of a new water filtration system. For more details, check Bow & Arrow’s Facebook page.
On the new beer front this week, there are a few new options to check out. Bosque is all about the lighter side of beer this week with Lemondrop SMASH and Citra SMASH Lager. Boxing Bear added Ekuanot SMASH last week, but prepare yourselves for a barrel-aged version of Oso Otono later this week. Dialogue blasts off with Biere de Mars. Drafty Kilt has a new Irish red, McRojo or No. Flix Brewhouse has their own Irish red as well, Baby You’re Much Too Fast. La Cumbre resurrects an old favorite in the Blanche de Burque. Marble puckers up with Berliner Weisse and Cherry Chingon. Ponderosa brings in the haze with New England IPA, and Vienna Lager should be on tap later this week. Red Door unveils Open Saison this Friday. Rio Bravo is feeling sweet with Vanilla Porter, and tart with Peach Gose debuting Friday for mug club members and Saturday for the general public. Sidetrack brings back old favorites Railhead Red and Switchgear IPA. Starr Brothers embraces science with C10H15N, a Crystal pale ale. Tractor rolls out Cascade Pale Ale and Minute-4, a lightly smoked lager. Turtle Mountain deals with a Hard Bock Life.
Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn embraces hop madness with Triple IPA. Rowley Farmhouse Ales doesn’t have any new beers this week, but it will host an Odell tap takeover Sunday with some unique and special beers (see its entry below).
