Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

Hops for Hunger is new charitable effort rotating between different breweries throughout November and December. We missed the first edition at Red Door’s downtown taproom last week, but it’s back again this Friday at Steel Bender. The event is in support of Storehouse New Mexico, the largest food pantry in the state. Each participating brewery will be donating a portion (or all of) the sales of a specialty beer to the charity through December 9. In the case of Steel Bender, it will be the Plymouth Rock & Rye Saison. The good folks from 94 Rock will be doing a live broadcast Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., and anyone is welcome to bring canned goods to donate, but since the Storehouse can purchase food at wholesale prices, a donation of just $1 can get up to five meals for people in need. Head on over and get your weekend started on a good note! (The next edition will be held November 17 at the Santa Fe taproom at Green Jeans.)

There is also a brewery anniversary party this weekend. Drafty Kilt is celebrating its first anniversary with two days of live music and fun. Steve Hall and Secret 7 will perform Friday starting at 4:30 p.m., followed by Daddy Long Loin’s Jam Session on Saturday starting at 4 p.m., featuring musicians from Merican Slang, the Chuck Hawley Group, and The Goatheads.

On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Bosque brings back another old favorite in Cumulus Wheat IPA. Drafty Kilt will have the new Outlamber Amber on tap for its anniversary party. Marble has Barrel-Aged Amber and Dubbel on tap. Ponderosa is feeling smooth with a fresh batch of Amber Ale. Quarter Celtic is feeling burly with Baltic Bollocks, a new Baltic porter. Sidetrack brings back Switchgear IPA, plus 2926 Steam Lager rolls back into the station. Steel Bender will also have Who’s Brett IPA on tap this Thursday. Tractor has Doppelbock on already, plus the epic epicness of Turkey Drool (a Crew seasonal favorite) returns Thursday. Turtle Mountain fired up a seasonal batch of Arsenal Porter.

Up in Santa Fe, Second Street has Breaking Plaid Scotch Ale, the first beer from the new Rufina brewhouse, plus Nova Pale Ale on tap.

Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of November 6.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Under “Beers” are the new or seasonal beers on tap for this week.
